The sense I'm getting from Nick's interview is Magic and Rob basically told him they're going to look in other directions. Nick also says he would rather be on a good team right now at this stage (he said it in a polite way).
Nick played fine for us this season, so I can see why the FO has some interest in bringing him back, but thin roster space with possibly 2 rookies coming if we get the 1st round pick, Nick's interest in playing for a playoff team, and $$ considerations are probably not looking good. Also, Tyler Ennis is looking like he could take over JC/Lue's job of backup PG. JC has played well in the starting lineup during the 5 game winning streak, so we have other guard options to look at.
strange that they want nick out (if that's the case). i agree with khmr: we have two guys who can shoot, and we're showing one the door? i thought nick had a good bounce-back year. obviously, i don't want to sign him to a crazy contract, but we got him cheap once, maybe it could happen again. i also don't understand sending mwp packing so definitively. not that he's a good basketball player, but it's totally possible that the team could wind up in a similar situation as last year (a roster spot and no one to use it on) and bring him back as a temporary mentor again. to me, taken together, this has to mean that magic and rob think those guys weren't good off-court influences?
Yeah because the other consistent "veteran" who could do it as well they already traded. I'd like to see him back long as he makes the coaches happy with his D and how he is playing in the system. Nick's still in great shape next couple of years. Nick was actually semi-consistent with that ability to hit 3s this year and Clarkson can't do it like that as often.
Honestly, I like the way Brewer has been playing for us. He could take Nick's role just fine. I want our offense to be predicated on defense and hustle, not who can shoot the best. Guys like Nwaba and Brewer have been excellent on the perimeter getting deflections and we've had so many transition opportunities because of them. Sure, we could use more shooters, especially with losing Lou and Nick, but if we can shore up our perimeter defense and get easy buckets, we won't need to rely on shooting as much as we did.
These last couple of gms is clouding your judgement on O....you better be top 3 defense if you have no shootets or have a westbrook on your team
