lol was just going to say that.

we're definitely not letting need dictate our draft/udfa choices so far. which is totally fine by me. go get the best players available and develop them.

edit: took me a minute to get the comp, but reminds me of jared sullinger a bit. he didn't pan out, and i'm not sure about this guy, but he can definitely shoot it. seems like we go after one shooting forward each year, lol. who was that guy last year? it was swider before that.

the other comp that came to mind is gary trent (the dad, not the guy playing now).

i don't have extremely high hopes here, tbh. but here's to proving me wrong!

Yeah I could see Gary Trent. Another guy I thought about was Grant Williams, rebounding/steals/assist rates are similar though Dixon is 20-30lbs heavier . I'm not super impressed with his highlights either but ESPN and others had him as the top undrafted player available, so that's pretty cool. College's top scorer choosing the NBA's top franchise

Similar to my comments in the Draft thread, I think there's minutes (injuries) at the backup 4 if his scoring translates and can grab 5-6 boards in limited minutes.

very similar physical profile, but millsap was a much better defender and rebounder in college.

He's tough and can shoot. We will see how he looks in the summer league. I try not to put too much on these signings. Great if we get a gem but expectations should always be low IMO

Why he wasn't chosen by anyone

i think he wasn't chosen because there just aren't any current exemplars of players of his kind being successful in the league. he's going to have to prove he can defend forwards and within the team concept. he didn't really do that in college, so it's fair to be concerned. he's not good enough to be a 1a scorer in the nba like he was in college, though he did show abilities as a role player earlier on. but offense isn't the problem.

It's probably the same situation that Reaves went through where his agent declined offers from other teams and heavily pushed towards being a Lakers.

A 6'8, 250 lb dude shooting 40% from three, probably around 37% in the NBA, while being age 24 is good value for a team looking to compete ASAP.

Lakers don't have time to develop players right now and with limited cap, this was a good move.

He's also age 24 so what you see is what you're most likely going to get for the rest of his career.

20 teams are probably an automatic NO just because of his age alone.

I think that if he's consistent in college than he doesn't need any development.24 is perfect age he's not going to be all star ,but he is already good player with basic skills.
It used to be positive staying in college than going to draft after 1 -2 years NCAA career.Thats why almost no bust from guys who played in Europe.
    But it's IMHO
