The contracts of Metta, Tarik, and Huertas have a deadline some time this week - if they remain with the Lakers, their contracts become fully guaranteed. The report is that the Lakers will decide by Friday.

    http://hoopshype.com/team/los-angeles-lakers/

This bit of news coincides with the availability of the 10-day contract.

Peace has the most minutes at 294, but he hasn't set foot on the court since December 7th.

Huertas has logged 232 minutes, and he has appeared in 11 of the last 16 Lakers games.

Black has appeared in only 8 games, the last on 11/24. Black has dominated in the D-league, averaging 21.4 points, 13.2 rebounds, and shooting 60% from the floor in five games.

Reading a bit into recent comments from Mitch, it doesn't sound like Black is seen as part of this core going forward. Black seems like the most likely candidate to be removed from the team. I think it's a colossal mistake, mind you.

that would be sad. i'm mystified by black's season-long benching. i feel like there's a story there that we'll learn about after he leaves the team. like he's had off-court trouble or something. i really can't explain why sacre and kelly have been given more looks than him, or why bass gets all the backup c minutes. i expected black to be the lakers' primary backup c this year (and maybe beyond).

huertas needs to go. he's bringing nothing to the table, imo. use that roster slot for call-ups.

i like metta's presence, so i'd want to keep him.

I'm with you. I'm not sure what the Lakers are seeing that we aren't - or vice versa. He seems like a legit ten year career sixth man.

If there is no back story and we lose this strong, athletic, coordinated young player with some very useful skills on a low dollar contract..... Scott the A-hole should be blindfolded, taken outside and sho.....errrr....pick your punishment as he also is FIRED. A brutal blanket party from the team works for me as well since he likes his military approach.

I remember saying how even MDA, who was not good for that Lakers team, was a much better coach than Scott -- and some posters told me: "well, if Mike was still coaching the Lakers, Tarik would not play at all".

    Hmmmmm?

I sure hope we don't cut Black. I would really like him to get some burn at backup center instead of Bass. I feel bad for him though. So if we do cut him, I hope he goes to a good team and makes an impact. He deserves it.

If Black is cut, i hope he gets 20/10 every time he plays against us. I feel sorry for him, he would look better at the 5 than Bass, that's for sure. F b0ron!

I think Bass was promised X number of minutes to get him to sign here, and Boron is too stupid to figure that out plus play Black, since he's now giving minutes to Nance and Randle at the 4. Well Black could have had all of Sacre's minutes for one thing, and certainly of late with Nance knocking down his J's ....just for really interesting s***s and giggles, he could try for a quarter or two Black at the 5, Randle at the 4 and Nance at the 3. It's not like we aren't losing a bleep load of games anyway because of his lunatic rotations and sub patterns.

Very little upside in getting rid of any of them at the price points they are at unless you somehow come across better options.

It opens a magical 10-day contract for, you know, some tall goon.

Once again, I agree with some of the posters above. Black HAD to have done something to piss off management. There is no way that dude should glued to the bench behind Sacre.

i'm not opposed to management tying the coach's hands sometimes. you want to play huertas over the prized rookie? no huertas for you. try again.

Byron will just run Kobe 40 minutes and play people out of position.

I don't like Huertas' fit for this team. If Russell is coming off the bench, there's no room for Huertas who needs the ball to be effective. I honestly don't hate him as much as everyone else because he does provide really high quality running an offense, but he's a really bad defender and a poor fit.

Trade or cut him, Sacre, Kelly, and even Bass at this point (although I've always been a fan of BB).

Black has been so misused. No, not a star, but a very hard working backup. If he's cut I'm gonna be pissed. Metta is valuable in case of injury, but more importantly because I think he's been a better coach and more encouraging/of a teacher to our youth than B0ron. He needs to stay. Huertas, needs to go now, doesn't belong in the NBA. Man was I wrong about him based on a few preseason games, he cannot hang with NBA speed.

This is the most baffling, uncalled for trip to the dog house since MDA f***ed over Jamison.

Black and MWP need to stay and have actual roles that result in them seeing the court.

    We could trot out:
    Russell
    Clarkson
    Peace
    Black
    Hibbert

If we need defense. I'm not sure why we're not using Metta a bit more in that capacity unless he's on the way out.

I'd like to see Black get run as backup Center, and see Julius get 25-30 minutes a night. The rooks won't learn without PT
