This guy should have been signed to the 3rd 25 year 25 million contract after Magic and the Bald Eagle
I wouldn't. Austin STILL has two-three years ahead of improvement in taking HIS game to its highest level, which Murray has pretty much reached. Austin on proper assignments is a good and getting better and stronger defender. And his overall complete repertoire of advanced to elite skills two years from now .... probably THIS year .... IMO exceeds Murray's by a big margin. Murray does a couple things marginally better (including athleticism) (last year, pre this year's version of Austin) ..... but he is not a more valuable and better all around player.
Austin is one of my favorites, and on a great contract for the team. He's about at his ceiling as a player IMO, and he's still a good player, but Murray is the higher end talent. He'd fit better next to Russell or Reaves, than those two fit together.
I don't think Austin has peaked at all yet. We'll see a better version this year (I really hope here as I'm a huge fan of his skills and game and personality) .... probably stronger, more improved handles on top of what he has now and maybe shoots better. Those all can be worked on. He's improved every year here from start as a rookie to end of that season, last year and this season.
I pulled the stats on both players and Dejounte Murray's numbers do look a little bit better. If any of yall have seen him play as I have zero familiarity with his game, how are the following: athleticism: our backcourt is painfully unathletic, especially DLo. Austin is a better athlete than Dlo but still below average. defense: Austin is the better defender of the 2, but the dearth of athleticism in our backcourt is painfully apparent defensively. I have no idea how Dejuante Murray is defensively, and if that's worth giving up Austin if that's who we have to give up. shooting: Austin's 3 point % is slightly better than Murray, and we need floor spacing around Ludabrow and lebron. DLo is a great shooter, but what we give up for that shooting on the other end of the court is just brutal as well as his non existent first step. If we can swap Murray for sloth footed Dlo, that looks like a good swap, not sure why Atlanta would do that. Personally I'd prefer a S&T with DLo if possible. I just know going into next season we can't have a player in our backcourt that lacks NBA level athleticism, and DLo just can't be a starter on a contending team.
Yes. That’s why he’s paid 30million plus this year and Austin just 12M lol, do you think he’s 20Million dollar better than Austin. I don’t think so
Murray makes 21M, up to 25 next season. He's only 1 year older, and has avg over 20pts a game for the last 3 seasons. He's the superior talent, but Austin is paying the price for going undrafted. His contract is ridiculously cheap. I'd much rather trade Chokeolo's sorry a**, absolutely no doubt about that.
He makes 25m.Better offensively and defensively.Just a better player that’s just how it is.AR is a good player but I’m interested in this team getting better.
My point stands. Is he worth double the salary, meaning equivalent to the contribution they both bring?
The thing is, that Austin is going to want a substantial pay raise next season. He has a player option in the following season. That pay gap isn't going to be as wide soon.
