I believe there was interest there, but there was that rumor that quickly surfaced about "player personnel power" and the talks died really quickly from there.

With Ollie out of the mix, time to show up to Luke's house with a duffle bag full of cash. Pull a clippers and don't leave his house until he signs on the dotted line.

I am honestly fine with either Luke or Messina. I like Messina's credentials and knowledge, I think he will get a shot somewhere if not with us. I personally like Luke just a little bit more, and I'm not really sure I can give reasons that Messina doesn't top him in. Just feels like a fresh start, fresh approach, I like that Luke is young and hungry to coach, and again can grow with this young team, maybe be around for a long time. I'm not saying Luke is Phil, but Luke FEELS kind of a like a young Phil Jackson to me, I see great potential there and I want to get in on the ground floor. Guy has been around and taught by basketball greats his whole life/career, I just think he's our guy.

I feel the same way and I get the feeling Phil has always seen a lot of himself in Luke and that's why he's been somewhat of a second father to him. Granted a lot of that depends on who Luke surrounds himself with because would Phil have been Phil without Tex?

Yeah I gotta read that and to be fair I met him in 2010. From what youre saying that makes me feel a bit more confident in his ability and growth.

Nobody cares Bill. This is a once in a life time opportunity for your son. He may never get an opportunity like this again so please f*** off.

Luke is destined to be our coach. He will be the guy to lead us back to the promise land. He'll forever be entrenched in Lakers history as one of our great, great coaches. I truly believe that.

You have hit this right on the head. Messina and Luke are both fantastic choices. I lean the Luke direction because of the things you just listed off. Being a star recruiter and can relate to the guys is huge. As much as I like Messina and his coaching philosophy, and I really do think he is a basketball genius, I would go with Luke because he is the perfect fit for the Los Angeles Lakers. Being the Lakers coach there are more boxes to check than for other teams. LT your post puts together exactly the thoughts I needed to quit flipping the coin... at least for now..lol. What I really like is that we are going to end up with a great coach either way we go. From my perspective the rebuild started when we fired Byron. The past two seasons we were still in destruction mode. Championships suddenly do not seem so far away.

Ireland on radio said that Lakers and Luke met and it 'went good.' Gives 70% chance that Luke will be the coach.

    Good, keep him.

How is Luke being deemed THE GREATEST RECRUITER EVER when he's never recruited anyone??

    I wants W's, I want X's & O's philosophy, I want a proven track record.
Luke supporters sound like cult followers, you believe in something with zero to little proof.

Yeah a 39-4 record is no proof.

Sad and ridiculous how you're trying to diminish a man's accomplishments. Everyone from Golden State credits Luke a great deal. Gee who should we believe here. You who obviously has an agenda against Luke or guys who around him every day? Tough choice.

Luke has a great philosophy, he's already shown he can win in this league, he knows X's and O's and how to play as a team and win in the NBA. What more do you want?

The only one with zero to no proof here is you. You claim Luke wouldn't be a good candidate and yet all the evidence says otherwise, but yeah we're a cult because we want a guy who has all the traits of a great basketball coach and has already proven he can lead.

Zero to little proof. Well if you can't see the huge amount of plusses he has legitimately going for him, and I myself have stated why on the recruiting, fine. But don't mock those of us that can see this. Jerry West didn't need to bring 17 year old Kobe back in for workouts #2 and 3. What in all the points about recruiting that have been made, they're not far back last page or two or three, specifically, do you feel hot air is being blown about. What is your counter point on any of them, let's discuss.
