Which doesn't mean much. All that matters is what Luke thinks and I just find it hard to fathom he's gonna walk away from what is literally a once in a lifetime opportunity and he knows that better than anyone. It's one thing to coach someone like Milwaukee or OKC, but to coach the Los Angeles f***ing Lakers and have an opportunity to help lead that storied franchise back from down under. That's gotta be a dream for any pro basketball coach.

That doesn't mean it will be easy. As Warriors big man Draymond Green, who has spent more practice time with Walton than any other Warrior, admitted on Friday, it's frustrating for the team, according to CSN Bay Area:

"It gave Luke an opportunity,” Green said. “It gave other coaches an opportunity to step up. It gave us more of a sense of responsibility, of togetherness, knowing that this is Luke’s first go at it. And, man, he was amazing.

“It’s kind of frustrating, too, because now … Luke is my guy and now he’s going to be gone next year – if any GMs are smart.”

Still doesn't change the fact that we didn't give a rats a** about Clifford and Snyder. Until Blatt, the league was still unsold on Euro philosophy in the NBA. But Pop sure as hell recognizes Messina's value in San Antonio.

If anything the fact that Messina has a good reputation should make us more comfortable.

 

Luke isn't gonna turn that job down lol. No chance in hell. He's always talked about what it felt like to wear that Lakers jersey. What it was like to win championships here. It was like nothing else. He talks about the influences of Kobe and Phil. He talks about the die hard, loyal fan base. We want Luke. He wants us. It's only a matter of time. People saying this isn't a good situation I completely disagree. This is literally the PERFECT situation for him. He has a young team. He's already shown he's capable of handing veterans, superstars, etc. I don't see any reason to think with how smart the guy is he couldn't relate to the younger players. Of course he could because he's been in their shoes. He's got this great, calm demeanor and he was such a smart player. I always loved how he played in terms of always trying to make the right pass. He wasn't very talented, but his IQ was off the charts. He made so many great post entry passes over the years to Pau, Kobe, LO, Drew, etc. and I don't remember him ever taking bad shots. Ever trying to get out of character. There's a reason he stayed in the league for like a decade despite having very minimal basketball skills, talent, or athleticism. He knows what it takes to win, he knows the necessary balance between probing, demanding, but not going all dictator and military sergeant on guys like Byron. He understands the game. Understands X's and O's. He would know how to put players in the right position. He would teach them all the off ball stuff he's learned over the years. All the old triangle drills. Giving players the opportunity to learn how to really, truly become unselfish and getting good basketball habits. I trust he knows he'll need to hire a good staff to make sure he's not the only voice and they're taught the right defensive habits as well.

 

Haha Luke is a goofball off the court. He'll have no issue relating to the kids.

 

That is pathetic.

Couple of seasons ago when Kobe was out for the playoffs we still sold out both playoff games. Place was packed even though everyone knew hope was lost without Kobe.

 

I really hope its not Luke, GSW make assistant coaches look good...Alvin Gentry??

Passing on Messina is a mistake
