I agree with you but as long as Jeanie holds some position of power, Phil Jackson will constantly be brought up as long as we are struggling. Maybe even when we aren't as well.

I mean I guess it "sounds" good, Phil coming back to LA to return us to greatness etc...

But I actually don't really want this to happen. I mean the Knicks situation isn't exactly something that would strengthen his resume.

I know I'm in the minority, but I'd welcome back Phil in whatever capacity he wants. Ideally that'd be in a nominal "President" role where he helps recruit free agents and Luke as coach.

not interested in pj as a front office guy. I wanted him (or any breathing human) over dantoni as coach, but if that would have come with executive powers, I would have been nervous. this the guy who tried to get young kobe traded. as others have said, what's happened in ny hasn't strengthened his resume at all.

I'd rather just promote ryan west and get all of the busses out of basketball decision making.

F*** no.I don't want to run his antiquated system in today's NBA that has NEVER worked without the best player in the freaking league at it's center.

Yeah, not to repeat myself, but I don't want this. Phil is getting up there in years, he wants his coaches, his system, I want to go a completely new direction. No retreads. For me it's almost sounding like a nightmare scenario, because with Jim at least we have like a 2017 deadline. With Phil there will be no deadline, Jeannie will never fire her fiancé/husband (by then?), he will get like a 5 year deal, and if he sucks, we are stuck with it, no way out. DO NOT WANT. Phil is just as stubborn as anyone else, and again, he'll want things his way, his players, his coach, his system, and that hasn't improved NY by much at all.

Given the tools at his disposal, I think Phil has done a decent job in New York. I haven't watched them too much, but from what I can tell, the reason they're struggling isn't because of Phil's stubbornness to adapt to the modern NBA. Do they even run the triangle that strictly?

He gave away three of their best players (Chandler, Shumbert, and JR) for essentially nothing who were all key cogs for their 2012-2013 season when they were the second best team in the East. He hired a coach with no experience and then hired one with one, but no proven track record of success.

I love Phil, but I don't want his system in LA anymore. Bring Luke in, and let's play some modern basketball with our young guys.

I have a feeling this will happen. Phil will be brought in and he will hire, like, Ron Harper to coach. We will continue to get slaughtered. All our kids will accept their qualifying offers and skip town asap. Obviously they will all go on to be all-stars with other teams. This is nepotism at its worst, folks.

I don't want him in the front office either.

Phil is an amazing coach but that has nothing to do with being a GM or making the calls in the background. Phil has certain tendencies and biases towards triangle, IQ over athleticism etc. that are not compatible with today's NBA. He is a basketball dinosaur.

Yeah but now Phil and Rambis have taken shots at Fisher for exactly that. Not enough TRI. And not enough coaching of it in pre-season.

So everyone is against a system that has 11 championships under its belt? LOL

It's outdated? Please. You mean it's proven, but you need Tex Winter.

Your post goes between the two arguments. :D

We have no Phil and no Tex to teach the Triangle, so who does? Kurt? Kurt has a coaching record almost as bad as Byron's.

The point is Phil seems hell bent on instituting the Triangle, but he won't coach it and he didn't have enough of a hands on approach as Tex did. Nobody has the understanding of the offense + the ability to teach it like Phil/Tex so it won't work. Phil doesn't care though, he'd rather push his vision. Since that's the case, I don't want him making decisions. I don't want Kurt Rambis as our long-term head coach. New York can go with that plan.
