All I want out of the rest of this season is for Russ, JC, Randle, and Nance to develop chemistry and start to learn to play together and have fun. We're starting to see that. If this new offense leads to that, great, it certainly appears to be as guys are moving a lot more without the ball and we're seeing some sweet passes/assists. I'm optimistic if these guys start to really grow together because then we have hope of what a real coach can get out of them. So yeah, all I want, win or lose, is to see these guys develop. Well, that and B0ron to be fired right after the season ends, these things would make me very optimistic going forward.
We did beat the Warriors last season and we are much worse from a talent stand point last year as well. Warriors have lost most of their games against bad teams so not that surprising.
- We won - Beat the best team in the league on national TV - All our young guys had great games - PHX won no harm no foul - We did what we were supposed to do in showcasing for free agents Successful day.
I believe it's THE biggest upset statistically speaking. It's the only time a team under .200 has ever played one over .900 and we won. Insane. Like @Doc Brown said: this checks off all the positives. Fantastic game and exactly the kind of thing we need to make a splash in FA.
Aha.. I hadn't even considered this. That might be the biggest positive of the day if the FO can do the right thing, the smart thing, the only thing to do, and fire B0ron the day after the season ends.
My only concern is free agents will look at the game as the Warriors just taking a night off like many championship teams do. When is the last time a sub 20 win team got a good free agent?
Not only did we beat them but came in at what 3rd or 4th largest margin of victory against them this season? Our backcourt is looking pretty good as of late despite some losses, but if Russ and Clarkson keep getting better, you never know, splash brothers part 2? Okay maybe I'm getting a little ahead of myself but definitely liking what I'm seeing.
Is it bad that I'm not that excited over the win? I just feel it was more to do with the fact that Golden State didn't even seem like they wanted to play together. With how sloppy they were with the basketball. All the wide open shots that are usually missed. They were so out of wack on both ends. Also the last three years that we've been awful we've always had one of these games against great teams. Last year we beat the Warriors, Bulls, and Spurs. Year before I believe we beat OKC and the Spurs. It just seems like one of those fluke wins. I'm still very excited about our young core I just don't really see this win as something that's gonna mean much going forward.
I'm not celebrating or anything but it was huge positive experience for the kids. How often does a team that loses to a 12-51 team look great? Make no mistake GSW wants that season wins record, it was a real deserved win. Sure it was an off night for GSW with 40.2 FG% but that wasn't horrible, it was the 3s which will come up and bite ya if you are reliant upon them, even as great a 3pt team as they are. They outboarded us by a lot, passed the ball better and had a lot more dimes but we out-hustled them in other areas and took care of the ball. We beat them by a decent margin too and it wasn't like Kobe won this for us. 7 guys in double digits. Great offensive output by DAR, JR & JC, can't wait until that is a consistent thing but it looks like we headed there quickly. As long as we get some proper coaching next year, preferably a defensive coach like Thibs, things could flip quickly. Add Thibs and some amazing FAs that 60mil can get you and we're off to the races.
Hey I'm still plenty optimistic. I still think Russell is gonna be a superstar. Randle I think eventually can be a 20/10 monster. Clarkson at the very least can be a perennial sixth man of the year candidate. Nance looks a lot like a young Draymond Green. Just great energy, versatile defensively, super athletic. If you look at the free agents really only one guy makes us a sure fire playoff team and that's Kevin Durant. We have too much money to not spend so as long as we get 2-3 players who can come in, fit, compliment and aren't gonna take shots away from the young kids then I think we'll be okay.
I understand where you're coming from. Yes the Warriors were pretty off their game, but remember that they're chasing the best record in NBA history. Even on their off nights this season, they've found ways to pull out victories way more often than not. So to come away with a win against a team like that is huge IMO, regardless of the circumstances. As far as the "meaning" of this game, I think this win does wonders in terms of our young core's psyche. Yeah they've had good individual games up until this point, but we have to remember that at a certain point we have to get these guys to develop not just a hunger for improving as individual players, but a hunger to win ballgames. I was in the arena yesterday and I have to say the atmosphere was as good as it's been all season. To be in a fun and exciting game like that hopefully gave the youngsters an idea of how good it could feel to be consistent winners.
The young guys need games like this. They need to know what winning feels like so they can obtain the lust for victory. I've been saying this all year and I'm against tanking for that reason. We just need to get rid of Boron yesterday.
