What's Pau's contract? I don't make this trade in-season. We have slugged through the first 52 games of the season watching this dog s---. I'd like at least a shot at keeping our pick since the majority of the suck-ness is behind us. Hibbert being upgraded to Pau would be worth too many wins. I would have done this trade earlier in the season, but we're almost done now. No reason to hurt our draft chances for a few meaningless wins at the very end of the year. Might as well give us the best shot at keeping what we "earned" through most of this season.

Please god no to Pau. Love the dude, always will, but was so happy when we finally parted ways. I couldn't watch any more layup lines to the hoop with him defending the paint, he had quit, he is not getting any younger, those days are gone. He will get you points, and he will give up just as many or more, he played like a wuss his final year or 2 here and I had enough.

EXACTLY. This is why it pisses me off when people say Pau was "unappreciated" when he was here. I think we showed great appreciation for him when he was winning titles and playing with a chip on his shoulder. But when he started playing much worse in his last few years here, he was deservedly criticized. If you need evidence of his poor play, look no further than the fact that we couldn't even trade him for a late 1st round draft pick.

When he was calling the Lakers/Bulls game a few weeks back, Reggie Miller in particular went on a little rant about how Lakers fans didn't appreciate Pau for all he did for us when he was in LA. I hate that he blasts us on national TV, making us seem like ungrateful fans when clearly he just has bitterness towards a Lakers organization that denied him his only real chance at a title. It's not our fault he couldn't get over the hump.

In fact, WE as Lakers fans should be upset at REGGIE! If he could have just converted an easy layup in the 2004 Conference Finals against Detroit, and not get chased down by Tayshaun Prince (when he had a 5 step lead on his a$$), then Indiana could have faced us in the 2004 Finals and we could have smoked our way to another banner.

Yea Pau was never the same after 2010.. Phil ran Pau into the ground that season. He was always on the floor and played more mins than anybody on the team. He was completely exhausted.. was no reason to play him over 3000mins.

He's better than the vast majority of players making 7m a season though. And he's good for developing young bucks.

Yep. That's my mindset this offseason. Acquire impact players and positions of need, complement the youth, grab a good coach, and you're on your way toward building something respectable.

I don't want Pau. That's going backwards to me.

I loved Pau during our championship runs. He turned into one of my all time favorite Lakers. But then came that season after the second ring, and something was wrong with Pau. I could see it even in pre-season. He just turned into a whiny little you know what. I had never seen that before. He was gutless that season. Phil referenced it later on but wouldn't divulge exactly what it was. I think he hinted that it was some kind of family issue. I guess we'll never know.

But during that season he went from hero to cry baby before our eyes and he was never the same kind of player that he was before. That's why he went on the trading block when he did for Chris Paul. And then when he knew he had been traded, but it got nixed, he really turned to passive aggressive mode. Those were bad years. I don't want to go back there. Onwards and upwards with the youth movement, please.

I'm fine with bringing back Pau if we've resigned ourselves to continue not winning. I will always love Pau and it would be nice to see him back in the purple and gold. But if we're actually trying to make some noise, Pau's not the guy.

Gasol played every summer for Spain with glee, NO, Phil didn't run Pau to the ground, I disagree!

huh, anti-pau sentiment is strong around here. I thought he reacted like many humans would to being put on the trading block repeatedly. this is why I don't think he'd come back anyway. he was misused by dantoni in awful ways, and he probably (and justifiably) lost confidence in the FO.

all that said, he has become a pretty big problem on d. my thinking is that the lakers can't get a lot worse on defense, and having a center who can put the ball in the basket might help them at least outscore a few teams here and there.

^^ Agreed that he reacted like a human when he got traded and then remained here. But what the hell was going on with him during Phil's last year, after getting a 19 million dollar per year extension? He was pathetic, mopey and whiny that year. And he disappeared in the playoffs as well. Phil even hit him in the chest to try and get him going!! That was the reason he ended up on the trading block to begin with. I didn't blame the FO for that one bit. Getting Chris Paul for him was a good trade. Of course Stern made sure that didn't go through . . .

He was cashing checks and taking it easy, saving all his efforts for Spain's basketball NT...

I wouldn't be against bringing Pau back in FA assuming our current bigs stay the same. An explosive scorer like Pau is what we're missing in the frontcourt. I'd love to see what he could add to Randle & maybe even Hibbert's game.
