Listening to Byron gives me confidence. Maybe its because our last two coaches were gimmick coaches, but it wonderful to hear someone talk that sounds like they actually understand basketball.

Time to be a little drastic with the lineup, Byron:

    Lin/Price
    Ellington/Clarkson
    Kobe/Johnson
    Hill/Kelly
    Davis/Boozer/Sacre

^Scott said if there are changes to the lineup, it won't be until the first 15-20 games or so are over with...

Ellington, Henry, Kobe, Clarkson can all man the 2.
Some of them can play the 3 - Kobe, Henry a bit, and maybe Ellington for stretches.
Once Young comes back, I expect him to take 25-30 of the minutes there, meaning Wes should see his role dramatically reduced.

He played Kobe too many minutes. Completely irresponsible. 4 days off or not; nothing warrants playing Kobe that much. 28 to 32 minutes. Is that so freaking difficult?

Byron wtf. 44 minutes for Kobe? Price out there way too long. I don't understand what Byron was thinking there.

44 minutes is way too much for Kobe and we didn't even win the damn game. There's only so much Kobe can do.

I'm concerned about our terrible offense. Do we really have that many scrubs, or is the offense total crap without a Jason Kidd or Chris Paul type to run it?

Mind boggling offense... I have no idea how Byron thinks Kobe playing 44 mins of ridiculous forced basketball is good for anyone. 5 days of rest won't help when he goes down to a fatigue induced injury during a stupid game like that... entirely unnecessary risk taken and they weren't exactly easy minutes or productive overall. It's just too early in the season and not important enough to risk his health over.

Everyone wants a win, badly.. but that just isn't the way to get one.

I'm sorry, but i don't see any offence from the Lakers. Lin dosent know what hess doing right now. it's like every offence he has voices in his head "does i need to be agrresive? do i need to run the offence? do i need to pass to Kobe?
every guy out there thinks that when he's facing the basket with a guard on him he can make the shot. thats not basketball.
thats not a talanted team. you can't win games in a one on one offence each possesion. you need to move on and off the ball.

right now i can't see any fingerprint of Scott on the team.

Struggling in every aspect of the game: can't pass, can't shoot, can't space, can't move off the ball; can't stop penetration, can't rotate properly; can't put in our best players, can't manage their minutes. This is pretty awful.

He's on my s***list until he starts giving me more than lip service and that Kobe stunt last night. The team isn't that good, but I'm failing to see the principles/foundation of his methods.

Everyone hating on Byron during the game chat. Does he get any of the credit for the win?

Yes he does, seems like he made great second half adjustments and hopefully foresaw a vision for this team. Before the second half though, you got to admit that the entire team was seeming to play free for all type ball a vast majority of the time? This was my second game observing game observing though, other being the opener. No doubt about it and the boys on TNT said it, this is the most competitive the league has ever been top to bottom and i agree.

Sure, he'll get credit for the win, and he'll get criticized for the losses...it's apart of his job. Either way, getting back to my point in the Game Day Thread; when Steve Kerr was hired for GS, they went out and hired Ron Adams, Alvin Gentry, and Luke as assistants surrounding Kerr with top notch assistants; Adams for his past experience on defense and Gentry for his offense. If Byron is going to be here awhile, I'd really think he'd benefit from going out and getting a high level assistant; maybe a Lawrence Frank, again? I'd think he'd and the team benefit immensely from another voice that could help on both sides of the ball, IMO.

I see Frank was hired by the Clippers in September reaching a buyout with Brooklyn.

Of course he gets credit for making the adjustment and, ultimately, winning the game. But, in terms of both offense and defense, this does not look good. It's not just that we don't have the players -- everyone looks confused out there, like there's no plan at all. Or, the plan is to run Kobe into the ground again and let him chuck shots in the meantime. At least MDA was experimenting with different lineups (to the point of not having a clue who would start the next game) and getting something out of scrub PGs. And we could score more points in a L too. I don't know if that matters or not, but I'm not sure Byron is a good coach for the style of basketball everyone is playing these days.

    Maybe I'm wrong, we'll see.

I thought in the 2nd half they looked very good defensively. In general I see a defensive plan, it's just about execution. A lot of that falls on Kobe honestly because he gets tired and looks awful defensively at times. Some of it falls on them just not knowing what to do. We've got to remember this is a new coach and a new system so things won't click right away. Not a lot of teams have to jump into a new system with this little talent. That's why our learning curve is so steep right now.

Offensively though we look terrible. They've got maybe 3 options that they run effectively, everything else looks really chaotic. I know Byron hasn't spent half as much time on offense as defense, so the progress on that end will be slower but it's going a little too slow for comfort. Especially since the defense hasn't been great so far either.

So far I give Byron a C. He's been completely average. I can't expect him to win many games with this roster. I know there's been injuries that have thrown his plan out of whack early. I've seen some progress here and there, but it's just not moving quite fast enough. He needs to get that fire going in them. It happened finally last night where it wasn't just Kobe working hard and playing effectively. It shouldn't take an 0-5 start though for Lin to feel that confident or for Boozer to figure things out. Part of that is on Byron.
