Nance Jr. is the kind of kid that doesn't need coaching to be effective. Work hard, go get boards, and take what you can get. I mean he's the perfect "coach's kid" because he doesn't need to be catered to. I'm not sure Byron is even responsible for what we are seeing from Nance Jr. besides Byron letting him play over Bass/Black/Kelly which none of us expected.
I could see that. I'm trying to find positives. LOL. I think Byron has given him a chance to be honest. He could have kept playing Kelly and kept Nance on the bench...see T. Black.
True but man whenever Nance Jr. is in the game good things are happening. He brings such a positive and effective presence it's incredibly refreshing right now. At least I can enjoy him and Clarkson on the floor...
You can post it next game though too, and it will probably still be relevant. Unless the guys, y'know, start manning up....
1) The PNR defensive schemes should clearly be defined 2) The players mistakes should be corrected but 2) can't happen if 1) doesn't exist or I guess 1) is to pack the paint since 3s don't win championships
If I see a missed assignment by anyone, he's going to the bench. Period. Explain what he did wrong, and get him back in. Seriously, it's not that hard of a concept of coaching. I feel practice is such a big deal with Byron that he thinks the decision on who plays when and where is based on that rather than the game flow. He doesn't make adjustments, he doesn't make players accountable for mistakes, he just stands there with his beady little eyes and arms crossed. Just because Ryan Kelly and Brandon Bass worked in practice, doesn't mean it works against other teams. Just because Lou Williams running the offense in practice works because you're going 80% pace, doesn't mean it works. I'm so sick of his idiocy.
I agree with the concept - but if Byron did these we'd have to forfeit games for lack of players on the floor.
Honestly, there's really only a couple instances where I see issues, but they are such glaring holes, it's no wonder we're getting killed: 1. When Hibbert goes to help. - NO ONE picks up his man, boxes out, or cuts off that pass and we get destroyed nightly. The perimeter REALLY needs to stop allowing penetration so easily. 2. On the pick and roll. - I haven't seen one good hedge from the help defender. We've been okay at recovering a rotation, but it's to the point where the defense is in scramble mode and everyone is lost.
Thinking about this last night; this is 80% on Scott. Same issues in Cleveland, same issues last year, badly coached defensive teams that tank near the bottom of defensive efficiency his past two coaching stints; oh, by the way, he mentioned keeping Bass at the 5 .
Re-familiarizing myself with the Triangle; I included a video. I'd slowly run more Triangle and scrap Byron's Chin and Floppy sets. The Triangle gives us much better spacing, keeps players moving, and I think we have the personnel, in particularly within the starting that can benefit from running a system like this...
Nice get, good to see again. Yeah those were the days...... when all we had to b**** about was Derek's defense. Prime Kobe and Pau and Lamar and Phil didn't suck.
