Meanwhile the guy he's subbing for who we all admittedly love is still missing 2/3rds of his shots every night.

I've been advocating for MWP to sub in for Kobe for some minutes and tonight showed why we needed that to happen. MWP brings exactly what we need - defensive intensity and toughness at the 3. Great to see him in action tonight and I thought he had a lot to do with this win.

Just re-watched some metta highlights on youtube, and it reminded me he's my 2nd favourite laker after Kobe. Gotta love Metta.

I probably owe MWP an apology. Not sure, though, as we might just have sucked because of Byron.

His offense isn't exactly there (really wasn't in his last run with us either), but his defense and energy level is good. He needs minutes.

He makes the right passes, takes open shots, and occasionally tries to post up smaller opponents. I'm not sure what else you expect from a role player off the bench.

I thought he was an utterly fantastic player yesterday. He played well and within himself while leading the team in the right direction. Brilliant.

He made his case for minutes every single night. Unfortunately it meant no minutes for Huertas.

Well, he was a star player and one of the better wings in the league. People forget his best season: 21/6/3, with over 2 steals, playing the best defense in the league. Of course, he's not close to that level anymore, but he was a beast. He still knows how to play at the high level, you never forget that.

That's awesome, Kobe making that point to Julius about Metta.

I hope that Metta and Nance playing is the first sign of Byron awaking from his coma.

Metta has to be in the rotation. Our defense has to be shored up when the 2nd unit comes in.

If all it takes is 1 player that improves our defense immensely, you bring him in as a no brainer. Who's the odd man out? Let Huertas, Young and Lou (who honestly should be a lock to be in the rotation) play there way onto the floor. Competition can be healthy and honestly we have a lot of options in the backcourt.

Is it too much to ask for this to be a light bulb moment for Scott? MWP's first game and it just so happens tu be our first W. That's no coincidence. That's not saying we could go undefeated if he plays here on out, but this is exactly why I was really hoping he'd lock up that last roster spot. He's capable of something that no D league scrub is nor is any current available FA. He is a leader. Players follow his lead on the defensive end, for a team who's looked awful on D, one without a defensive identity I can't state how HUGE that is. He's an instant spark and rallying point for the rest of the squad.

He's the second most important leader on this team and the first on that list is in a F it, I'm gonna chuck the s*** out of this ball till I find a rhythm...so realistically, he's challenging Kobe for the sound, sane voice for this team. But it's difficult for your voice to be heard when you're sitting behind the bench.

He played within his current abilities offensively and brought it defensively. Give the man 10-12 minutes a night, you pathetic excuse for a NBA coach!

Metta's team mates have loved him on every team he's been on.He's a natural leader, and now that he's matured with his head on straight his value as a mentor to the Lakers young core is sky high. At the final roster cuts I wished they had kept Brown over him, once again proved wrong...

It's really insane how much the team loves him. I mean can any of you guys imagine calling that a few years ago?

Not sure how his offense is "awful", there was only one play that I could say was bad and it was when he had the ball with little time left on the shot clock and tried to drive to the rim. At this point, thats not his game.

Other than that, he was fantastic. When Kobe subbed in for him towards the end, he gave him a huge hug. The guys know what kind of impact he has. And thank god finally Byron put him in. Like others have said, 10-15 minutes a game. His energy is contagious.

He has decent bb iq. Seems to make the right decisions more often than not. He could end up being a stabilizing force.

I can just because I feel the same way. He's just a totally captivating personality and he backs up his talk on the court with hard nosed play. He's a blue collar type, but with a more than just a hint of eccentricity and a bit of genius. He is an original out there and despite the problems of his youth including the disaster at the Palace, he turned himself around and has done a lot of good in the world. He's engaging, never dull, and just a little bit dangerous. What's not to love?

I always wanted him to become a Laker and I was ecstatic that we got him even though I really liked Ariza and he was starting to be a favorite of mine. MWP had clearly aged past his prime when we amnestied him, but I'm very glad to have him back now riding out to the sunset with Kobe. He's still got enough left in the tank to play short minutes for us and he'll help us get wins.

I just think after everything that happened with him and the way Ron's career ended in Los Angeles last time... It would have been nearly impossible to predict that years later he'd come back in a mentor role as a bench player and help elevate the play of our young guys. Do you remember the terrible passes and the bad post ups and the awful drifting jumpers he used to take? I see almost none of that now.
