Just watching some Kobe highlights cause why not on a Monday afternoon... Is there a star in the league right now that can make an away game seem like it's a home game?
Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, and James Harden can certainly do that right now. Still it's a great point.
Now that you mention it, I don't remember any other arenas chanting LaBronz. Then again, I could have just blocked it out
Not just any "away" crowd. BOSTON!!! The most storied rivalry and they were chanting MVP for Kobe. Can you imagine us doing that for Lebron? NEVER GONNA HAPPEN!!!!
Only other player that I can see it happening to is Curry if he gets insanely hot. Bron? No, he doesn't have the offensive firepower.
This game was what 3 years ago when we had Dwight; the game started at 4 ppst and I know that because I was bummed out and couldn't view it due to my work schedule. I remember going to get lunch listening to the game on the radio and hearing Kobe chants during that part of the game. It was crazy. Although, we lost the game .
Was the question who can make the crowd chant "MVP" or who can take over a road game and dominate it? Because if the question is who can dominate a road game, all those names absolutely can.
It is very late where I am posting from. But I thought the intention of the question was who could turn an away game into an away game through the power of your game. The Boston example is an example of Kobe turning a crowd. The famous Kobe silencing the vocal Jazz crowd (back when they had a semi-relevant team) is another type of phenomena. I think Steph Curry has the type of game that could make a crowd go wooooo, even in a playoff game with the home crowd anti GSW. I think Bron and Soften could get some support just due to name recognition. Honest question. Do you see people making Harden compilations in another ten years? His speed to the rim and his step back J can be really nice, but honestly. Oops I forgot they will make Harden compilations. They have them already, they are ones for his defense lol. I can't wait for some Dwight and Harden chemistry compilations when Howard's touches keep falling. Sure some of Kobe's heat will be respect as he has lost that peak dominance this season (damn he looked good in that 2013 game), but Kobe has it, Jordan has it. Magic had it. The nature of his game is irrepressible.
I guess I'm misunderstanding the question. Is it who is legendary and who is going to make a lasting impact on the game? Or is it who can carry a team on the road? What am I missing here? I'm not sullying the greatness of Kobe by comparing him to these people and that's suddenly what it feels like I'm being accused of. I'm saying in today's NBA, which players can take over a road game? Whether you like it or not: Curry, Harden, LeBron, Durant all can do it. Anthony Davis will be there soon. I'm not saying they're as good as Kobe or that they could do it as well as he could, but unless you're not watching these guys play they can all take over a game in any stadium at any time right now. They're not Kobe, but they're still great by today's NBA standards (LeBron by any standard). Maybe I'm missing the actual question here somehow.
