Kelly has looked strong in the preseason, imo. the shots aren't falling, but we know he can shoot. everything else looks improved. he's really putting the ball on the floor with a purpose, and he's boxing out and blocking shots. looking like a decent backup 4, and certainly good enough as a third string 4. agree with others that we should never see him play a minute at sf again, though.
Been pleasantly surprised by Ryan's game in preseason. Def should warrant a slot over Sacre now imo (whereas before I couldn't care less if either got cut).
Injured small forward playing lost in the system Kelly looks like this Kelly. He doesn't play like him though. I am in favor of giving him a chance. He has skills. I believe he can fly.
Sometimes now it's because he takes like 2 steps from the 3 point line to put it up over the rim and is on his short way down by the time he's gotten there. Ball's still going in the hole with this new addition to his game.... fine by me.
He's 50% on threes at least, but his shots near the rim aren't falling unless they're dunks. Also to be fair he's 3/6 from deep and the 3 threes he made were against the non-NBA team. He actually hasn't taken that many threes, but he's done a great job of ball faking and getting to the rim. He's also getting to the FT line at a nice clip for a back-up player. I like the development he's shown.
Don't you be dissing my main man Sasha like that. He made them when it counted. For that alone he is forever OK in my book.
I like what I'm seeing from Ryan offensively. Defensively his deficiency is clear, he's not athletic enough to defend quicker and stronger forwards. He's good at boxing out though and active on the boards.
He swats 1 or so every game it seems and they don't see it coming a lot of the times. Ryan plays smart..... having learned under this guy:
The competence Ryan has shown this preseason has earned him a spot on the squad this season IMO. More than anything, he gives us a skillset that nobody else on the roster currently provides, which is the ability to play as a stretch 4. I'm all for compiling a roster that can give us as many different types of looks as possible. For one, it gives us the ability to adapt our lineups to exploit opposing team's weaknesses. Secondly, it provides us a chance to give D'Angelo multiple types of players to play with, giving himself a chance to develop comfort playing alongside any type of player.
I just love that Ryan isn't just standing out on the perimeter He's really been catching, does a head fake, and attacked the basket with his big steps. Good thing to keep mixing it up from Ryan. I wish Swaggy P would do some of this instead of always taking outside/fadaway shots.
Once again I'll happily admit to being wrong about him. He's earned a spot on this roster, when he's healthy he's a different player.
Side note, how bad is Vonleh? This is a guy people were debating if he should go ahead of Randle in the draft.
