Nobody puts that much junk in themselves for a good time. Your last comment was my initial thought reading the accounts. Odom feels abandoned and alone. So sad considering how much he helped others...

Also had track marks on his arms, but they don't know how old they are.

He's so haunted. I remember that quote where he said that death followed him. After he was traded and started down this path, really what he did was push everyone away. He forced his wife away, his friends. I wouldn't be surprised if he forced away many NBA colleagues and brothers. I think he genuinely believes that he's cursed to live this life and have bad things happen to him. He found sanctuary in LA and we traded him and it sent him down this path to oblivion. You're right at the end it's easy to look around and say "everyone left me here" but I think the reality is he left everyone else to go to that place. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he tried to commit suicide and in some ways I don't blame him for having those thoughts (even if I don't support the action at all).

It's a shame but basically everyone's reaction to this is: " did you see it ending any different?" and the answer is no. I didn't, but there's not much you can do when they don't want your help.

^That is the baffling part... Jackson gave him a chance with the Knicks and he did not meet it halfway. So many individuals that know him are in disbelief over this turn of events. Could be that Odom thinks he does not want to harm anyone with this bad luck that follows him. Good person, tortured soul...

LO is and was one of my favorite Lakers of all time. What a gifted player he was. I agree with most here in that him getting traded from the Lakers deeply hurt him, and he never recovered mentally. I think he found a family and oneness playing for the Buss family that he'd longed for his entire life. Once he was traded, he felt his Laker family betrayed him.

And to all the Kobe haters that say he doesn't care about his teammates...eff you! A guy who left during the game to be by his former teammate's side in his darkest hour is alright in my book.

First off who is Master P?
Secondly, speaking from personal experience, you cannot help an addict until they are ready to be helped. You can extend that hand for as long as you want but it's up to them to take it and most of the time it isn't until they've reached rock bottom.
Thirdly, what if Kobe did reach out at some point. Kobe is a pretty private person, he wouldn't make a spectacle of things.

^^^ Master P is a 90's underground rapper that has since started different labels & business ventures. His stature isn't really important though.

Guess he & Lamar were pretty tight.. Pretty cheap thing to say about Kobe tho.. Kobe has always made it clear that he stays out of FO decisions.. Just shows how much getting traded from the Lakers really affected Lamar ...

Man I loved that team. That certainly weren't the most talented championship team the Lakers have had, but they played together. There was no bickering or fighting everyone came together and were dedicated and detirmined to get back to the Finals and win after the humiliating loss to the C Bags.

All of this is just so sad. I sincerely hope Lamar is able not only to recover but get his life back on track. Definitely one of the good guys.

With that being said... There has been a lot of pointing fingers going on in this thread - at Lamar's freaking friends and family for supposedly not having done enough and the Lakers organisation for having traded him. Let's not go this direction please...

On a side note - I hate it when people use social media to express support. All of the famous people using twitter to "support" Lamar make me sick. I'm pretty sure he would appreciate a private message a million times more that that. A huge FU to all those stars acting like they care, and on this occasion I don't care if I breake the rules of this forum

Apologies for the rant, all of this is just beyond depressing for me. Get well soon Lamar, I hope you will find peace and move on from all the deamons that have been hunting you

People all over Twitter have called Kobe fake, are turning this into Kardashian related things, or are saying generally distasteful suff about Lamar. They don't deserve to get press over it, they deserve to be ignored. This is about none of those things, it's about Odom and hoping he recovers. These people are trolls, scum bags, or both, brought to the surface by the Internet world we live in where there are no consequences for anything you say, and often anonymity as well.

Really hoping LO pulls through. One of my favorite players ever.

I remember being ecstatic when we got LO in the Shaq trade. Obviously was hoping we could get D-Wade, but was happy to get such a talented and versatile guy like Lamar who still had star potential. Never quite lived up to it, but the guy was still terrific. His ability to post, ability to rebound, stretch the floor, he had playmaking skills like a point, could take it coast to coast, excellent defender, and was arguably the most important player in our two title runs. When LO was on we didn't lose. We were simply unbeatable. Lamar had his ups and downs, but when it mattered most he came through for us.

I loved hearing what Stephen A said about what Lamar told him after the Lakers fell behind 3-2 against Boston a few years ago. He was calm and not in panic mode like a lot of the fan base was. He loved playing in L.A. so much this was his home. Had his best game of the Finals in Game 6. Didn't have a great Game 7, but had a couple of big buckets in the comeback. It was great to see him, Pau, Kobe, Ron, and Fish on the floor on that final play and the celebration.

Lamar was so good in 2009 against Denver in the two biggest games of the season arguably up to that point. Particularly in Game 5 with Kobe being a decoy much of the game he really stepped up. He was relentless attacking the basket, crashing the boards, and a superb job defensively as well. Really I thought that entire postseason he did a great job spreading the court which was sorely needed. Him along with Trevor gave Kobe and Pau room to operate because Fish struggled most of that run.

Also Lamar was great against the Magic in the Finals. Was a huge reason for the Lakers being able to shut down Dwight which was really the key in that series. Was matched up against Rashard Lewis and his length really bothered him. In Game 5 those back to back threes he hit were so demoralizing to the Magic who were trying to comeback. I remember Jeff Van Gundy saying when Lamar is this good there is no beating the Lakers. Was right on the money.

The man is a two time champion. Had an excellent NBA career. Will always be remembered as a Laker. Great guy. Great team locker room presence. Was really the emotional heartbeat of those teams. Really hope he can make it. This would be just a devastating blow. We lost Jerry not too long ago and losing Lamar is not even something I wanna think about.

As much as I would have loved getting Chris Paul I was crushed seeing Lamar and Pau go. Obviously it didn't happen and to see the Lakers just trade him for nothing really took me back. I don't remember being angrier at the team since the Kobe trade debacle. It was sad seeing his career deteriorate. Part of me had hoped he got it together because I still believed he could still play and come back to the Lakers to wrap up his career.

I loved Lamar in the 2010 Finals.

He didn't back down to KG's antics, his team defense and rebounding were at an elite level, and he was having fun with the guys. That's what made it special.

Hope he can recover from this and get him right.

Very underrated. And I was pretty harsh on Odom, the player.

So many unsubstantiated reports right now... Heart attack, brain damage, organ failure but nothing confirmed. Read a small line that he was "slightly" responsive.

Good to hear from his Amigo... Those two went through so much together.

    http://dailyknicks.com/2015/10/15/lamar-odom-derek-fisher-knicks-emotionally-reflect/

    The Fish talks...

Odom the player... I don't think there was any player in Laker lore that did so much. Like Lantz said "LO was a stat sheet stuffer"... Fisher loved playing with him because he can initiate the offense from the 4. His numbers weren't gaudy but his impact on the floor was felt. More so in the locker room.
