I think he can learn a lot from Boozer. Boozer is not the type of player that relies on his physical and so can teach something different than just dunks.

We need some of the "smash mouth" as Kobe puts it... Only not that literally.

To add on what @therealdeal and lakersjones are saying and another reason why Boozer should start is that typically when Randle and Kobe were in the game together at the same time there would be instances where Randle seemed to think too much. Do I take it myself? But Kobe is asking for the ball down low? Do I set a screen for him? Do I give him space? All these questions will eventually be figured out but as of now Boozer fits better with the starters and Randle with the bench. This doesn't have to be permanent this entire season but certainly to start

Yeah, and stud or not he is only 20 years old (birthday imminent) and a rookie. He gets careless with his elbows and someone's going to put his nose into a different shape with an elbow in retaliation, protecting their teammate's back. He can put enough hurt on people literally by sending them flying just with his mass and speed if they are dumb enough to get in the way. Don't need a rep of flying elbows for our "ROOKIE".

I don't see a reason for Randle to start just yet.

He's going to be a Lakers for a very long time, so what's the rush? Let him develop. Let him learn the NBA game... primarily dominate his opponent's in the second unit... then learn how to dominate the opponents starters. Going up against weaker competition for a while will just let him solidify how to play his position and jell with the team while not having to worry about stopping the best NBA PFs like Aldridge and Griffon all night.

Ease him into his role. We aren't winning a championship this season anyway. Build for the future instead of throwing him out there with a bigger burden when he's not prepared.

^ yep. I'm a bit worried about foul problems cutting into his playing time were he to start.

For someone that ISNT weak minded, which Randle doesnt seem to be..I mean what he did at Kentucky was pretty impressive,I know this is the pro's but I believe sometimes being thrown into the wolves isnt a bad thing&theres a lot MORE good that can happen compared to bad. Keep things simple for him,if the game is too much mentally than I suppose it is okay to come off the bench. I think Lin&Randle combo would be more effective running&gunning together than Boozer on the floor. Would IMO put a lot more pressure on other team&than Kobe would be right there as well a step,or two(kidding! haha) behind to finish.

There's really no rush to start Randle right away. It's obvious he will get heavy minutes from the get go so it doesn't matter if he starts or not. Like I always say, the cream always rises to the top. The best players will start and I think he will prove himself to be better than Booz eventually.

Some kids react well to it and you're right Randle seems like the type that could probably handle it, but this is a long-standing tradition of the West/Kupchak era. Rookies tend to get worked in slowly to take pressure off of them. I like the idea for the most part.

Others have brought it up, but one problem is that Randle has absolutely no idea how to react to Kobe on the floor. He is incredibly passive, loses focus, and doesn't operate well within the team structure. He's constantly looking to set Kobe up instead of taking his own shots. Off the bench he's becoming the leader and that's a good start for him.

Not to mention, it's better Randle ease into the full brunt of a full 82 game NBA season. His conditioning will get better over the season, and he won't hit the rookie wall as hard.

Salient points by lakerfan2 and realdeal. Couldn't agree more. I love Randle coming off the bench this season for those reasons. Let's give him time to put it all together.

I definitely agree with yall. BUT, with that being said like you guys stated above. If that was the case of simply in a way of Randle wanting to setup Kobe at first thought(if thats what yall meant),compared to naturally making the best basketball decision dont you think Kobe/Scott knows that&its been talked about already?

The more I think about it I dont care as much about who STARTS between Booz/Randle anymore, the minutes will&we shall see Boozers energy, work ethic on the floor along with his experience&leadership will be able to sustain the rookie who LITERALLY EVERY HALF of a DAY is getting better. Plus with Lin&Kobe on the floor, there wouldnt be as many touches for Randle dont yall think anyhoot?

Oh Kobe and Scott definitely know that's a problem with Randle on the floor with Kobe. I'm sure it's something they're trying to encourage him with, but the kid is only 19 and still developing. He'll get there, just not yet.

I wonder what happens and how Randle responds to going into battle with the starting unit if Boozer gets into foul trouble early. Im sure theyve ran him with the starts in practice to see but a lot of people are better gamers than practice players ESPECIALLY IMO with young players. SOOOOO' many questions will be answered tomorrow haha.

If Boozer doesnt get in foul trouble yall think Randle goes in before halfway 1st?

I don't really see anyone on the Rockets that will get Boozer in foul trouble, unless he's helping on Dwight. We'll see Randle in around the 2:00 minute mark imo.

Like many others said, Randle would likely go into passive mode with Kobe on the floor, unless Kobe specifically gives him the ball and tells him, "Get your a$# to work!"

    Just unbelievable.

Randle has just got to find some kind of silver lining out of it. Have that Kobe mentality of moving forward and doing whatever you can.
