No matter what he does in court, whether he fails or succeeds, you gotta love Metta for his love for our team. For better or for worse, let's go MWP!

Guy looks absolutely lean and ripped and is saying he's nowhere in shape. Maybe he's serious and would make sense since his calf got jacked up first day of practice with Byron's insane running . Maybe the new leaner and lighter Metta really is an improved version of what he was his last year with us. Save him that spot on the roster, Byron and Mitch.

In Metta's case, "once a Laker, always a Laker" :).

Got his jersey the other day online. I'm happy with that decision.

Ron is a warrior and his contribution to this team comes from so many angles. Mentor, player, coach, spark, tone setter. Who would have thought we'd be here after the last few years? But I'm happy to be here. We're on the right track with Metta on the team.

I was disappointed to hear him say something about when his career was over and he had to pick one team (like if he went into the Hall, which I don't think he was saying) .... it would be the Bulls. As his first team I guess. Guy comes in as a rookie and busts Michael Jordan's rib(s?) in practice ... LOL. That did happen, right? Or was it bruised his ribs really bad?

Edit: (sounds like Ron was no longer a Bull when this happened, but he'd had enough of MJ trash talking him that day maybe in an off season scrimmage in a private gym when MJ was a Wizzard) Wow!!

    NBA PLUS. FAST BREAKS.
The mystery of the broken ribs
    June 25, 2001|BY SAM SMITH.

    http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2001-06-25/sports/0106250174_1_ribs-ron-artest-bulls

So just how does someone break two ribs being guarded? If Ron Artest were that strong, wouldn't the Bulls have been a little better?

The hottest rumor about Michael Jordan's rib injury in Chicago is that it occurred in a fight with Artest. Artest denies it, but being slammed to the ground is how you can break ribs, and that's the story going around.

It's being said that Jordan was in full trash-talk mode that day. He had been telling Antoine Walker of the C Bags to count on four losses to the Wizards next season, and he was hitting jump shots in the face of Artest and taunting Artest about his time with the Bulls and was getting personal[IMG]. The story is that Artest stayed back in the lane, and then when Jordan came in the next time, Artest grabbed him and slammed him to the floor. That's supposedly when the ribs were broken.

Artest is also said to have thrown a punch at Jordan afterward. Word is the participants were sworn to secrecy or wouldn't be allowed back in the private gym near Jordan's West Side restaurant. Who knows if it's true, but it certainly sounds more realistic than the story Jordan has been telling.

Couple of awesome MWP quotes from Pincus' LA Times piece. Hard not to like the guy, and his defensive influence on Randle is already paying off.

Man, I love me some MWP. Such a warrior and such an easy guy to root for/support. I was going to highlight some of those quotes, but they're all fantastic. That's the approach and attitude you wish all your players had.

I really hope he makes the team and if he doesn't, I have to say I'm going to be very bummed. I think he would play such a vital role both on/off the court for this particular ball club. If we have a slim chance to make the playoffs (which I think is a long shot), I think it'll be because of Ron and the tone he sets and the bar that he sets for everyone to be ready and go all out, that even goes for the Mamba.

Just hope he can get in what he considers "in shape" and stay healthy.
