I think he would be a great coach. I wanted him as coach over anyone else after the Mikes if we were hiring newbies.
James loves coaching. He doesn't so much love the idea of being on the road for half the year, that's why he hasn't done much coaching before this. This is a great addition though. He had that little camp last summer with the guys and now he'll have even more one-on-one time with the players. Everyone at this point is poking fun at the Lakers for "living in the past" but this is one of the advantages of the Lakers that I think we haven't utilized enough. We should have as many of our legends back as can be. Jamaal Wilkes, James Worthy, Norm Nixon, Magic when he has time, Kareem, Elgin if he's up for it. Anybody who has come through here, had some success, and is feeling up for a day of coaching we should ask them to come through.
Agree. I file the criticism of moves like this into the "Lakers can't do anything without someone, somewhere, criticizing it" folder. There's nothing wrong with pulling in the legends to help our young guys get better.
worthy can help randle learn about how to use his physical gifts to get in position for easy buckets, as opposed to always having to manufacture difficult ones.
I meant more generally, people tease the Lakers for living in the past. Well the past has its advantages!
That is really cool. The man has been breaking our team down in post game shows for years, he has pointed out things he wishes our big guys would do, and now he can show them in person.
We'll see. For 1st time in his short career since college he is healthy and had the whole off season to work out. Byron even commented what great shape he's in. But not at the cost of Upshaw or Metta not having roster spots if it comes to that. Same with Jabari, much as we like him lots. Sacre .... see ya!!
Like I said in the Murray thread, it's about time we caught up to the rest of the league on coaches/specialists. With the long line of greats that have been Lakers, it's sad that Cap is the only one we've utilized up to this point. So hats off to them for assembling a hell of a group to work with these young kids. I think Randle is the focus, but everyone will benefit.
This is a great move, Worthy's no nonsense approach meshes with Scott's...and Kobe's...It's a work in progress, no one knows how good...or bad this team will be, but I know one thing...the clown act we've seen these past 3 seasons is just that, in the past.
Worthy looks old and slow in that clip. That makes me feel old and slow. I am, but lessens my ability to be in denial.
Seems like Worthy has been teaching our big men pump fakes, a lot of them have been putting it to good use.
