He is...outside of the United States...as well as certain parts of Europe, South America and Asia.

Though I think MWP can defensively mentor all forward positions, as a player, in this small NBA, I think his days as a 3 are over and he needs to be looked at as a power forward. At the 4, the lack of hops and lateral movement is much more negated then at the 3. The fact that he is working out with a 4 is good too, and one who is young, actually is quick on his feet and has hops. Metta could still cause a lot of problems for 4's in the league. His quick hands, ability to box out, wearing down bodies by leaning on them, will be useful at many matchups at the 4 (not vs everyone, but certain matchups for sure). The ability to mentor JR defensively is very intriguing too, to say the least.

I am 100% in agreement with this article. I really do hope MWP signs here. I think we could use him and I'd love to have him back in the P and G. He'd be a great mentor for the young guns and I'd like to see him alongside Kobe again.

He's only 35 and he looks like he's in great shape. If he focuses mostly on D he can do that for more years. Just look at Bruce Bowen. He was one of the best (albeit, dirtiest) defenders in the league even into his mid-to-late 30's. A lot of what was hampering Ron before was the plantar fasciitis, and he seemed to kick that when he lost the weight.

I think Ron can help us.

Ron is the type of player coaches like. Adds toughness and confidence to the entire team. I mean Metta. Really hope we sign and keep him.

Yes and no... He also makes inexplicable decisions that coaches hate.

Exactly! I love Ron, though. I just can't let my nostalgia get in the way of the player I last seen that we amnestied...as a mentor, veteran presence, and somebody who can give us some minutes (not extended) on the floor, I'm all for having him back. However, if he's thinking like this, it does give me some pause. I hope he and the Lakers see they can both move a mutually beneficial relationship if both come with the right perspective from both sides.

No player is perfect and granted Metta makes some crazy ones, but he won't be playing that much. Mostly just be a good practice player and crazy mistakes there won't hurt us. I think the good in this case far out weighs the bad. As a coach I love that kind of player.

Not disagreeing at all, just saying there's pros and cons to coaching a guy like him. One thing is for sure: you'll never question his heart or effort. That's more than can be said for a lot of players.

Oh man makes my day, seriously. Upshaw, get your a** in the presence of Metta for life / basketball advice too, as much as possible along with everyone else that can benefit. :metta: Somewhere today when he got the news, Kobe is like :FistPump:.

:LakersRing: Here's to Ron for the ring he gave up for a great cause. From thug in my perception back in the day to thrilled to have him back even at 35 years old, now one of my favorite all time Lakers players. He sure came a long way from stalking Kobe in the shower.

Listen to him talk about how he is teaching Julius. Most of it is mental and intellectual. He's freaking Yoda now in addition to the guy who went Hulk in Indiana and on Harden's face, and who loves to jerk with Paul Pierce physically. :jack:
