He can't sell the Dodgers. Shohei's contract includes a "key man" clause allowing him to opt out if Mark Walter or Andrew Friedman leave the franchise. Shohei IS the Dodgers for the next decade. Triggering that opt-out clause immediately collapses the valuation of the team.

 

Well, if you call every player a dinkus, then the ones that are actually dinkus's, you will be right about them.

 

Desperate men have made worse choices when the walls were crumbling around them. I think he will try to hold on to the Dodgers but may be left with no choice at some point. It's tough to say when we know so little about the nature of this investigation around him but I don't know that anything is ruled out at this point.

personally, i couldn't care less who owns the team as long as they're committed to winning

 

it's a good question. i had said i wished ballmer or cuban owned the lakers many times, and i still feel that way. and tbh, as much as i rail on ballmer, it's not about how he got rich or what he's like...it's that he cheated and seems unlikely to be punished.

my opinion is that being a billionaire is bad. you basically can't get there whilst being good. so whoever owns any sports team isn't good. some are worse (like the folks who made money in predatory lending like gilbert and the portland guy), but i'm not interested in litigating that.

i did sort of like that the busses were a family operation, and we were basically the only team left like that, but over time, it was creating a competitive disadvantage.

so, i like jeanie, actually. she seems nice. but i wanted her to sell to someone with deeper pockets and a willingness to modernize the basketball operations. well, she sold, but we didn't modernize, lol.

anyway, i don't root for owners, but i imagine there could be a line for me. like if someone truly villainous bought the lakers, i could probably walk away.

then again, i rooted for karl malone for a year.

As many said, Walter's tenure was a wash. He basically just let Rob do his thing with "help" from some of the Dodgers people. I never thought the Dodgers way would apply in the NBA where the aprons basically limit spending.

As for Iger/Kusher, it sounds like we got Adam SIlver's BFF/vacation buddy in Iger. Maybe he will look away when we cheat and pay players to plant trees.

 

Yeah. I honestly did not realize how close Iger and silver were. The media is already falling in line at ESPN. Having Iger around definitely could have some benefits for us.

 

Not sure who is quoting Shohei. He will absolutely consider leaving if the Dodgers is incapable of building a contending team around him. Having the insurance of rebuilding (if necessary) with Shohei locked in place could be worth a couple billion to a potential buyer.

Having a GOAT player signed for 8+ years does matter. Especially considering that his deferred contract is the single most valuable contract in league history.
