Cucamonga agent displaying contract details offer means he using it as leverage for other teams to pony up.

I wish I knew who said it so I could give proper credit but a youTuber said pawns move, real kings stay with their team. Not sure who he might have been referring to...lol.

With Duren and Watson likely hitting the FA, plus a few good and established role players, I wonder how smart it can be to bet on that FA for Kuminga. It seems there will be a few teams with cap space but a lot of players available too.

Kuminga and his agent are having anchor bias (I think the scientific terminology is different, maybe abeer can help). They are basing today's decision on what money they lost before. That is already gone, is not coming back. They can only make a sensible decision by looking at what is the reality now.
He can make around 50m guaranteed right now, on a team that has a proper role for him and will be fighting for championships every year. He will have a ton of visibility too. And he will still be starting his prime when that contract expires and can get another bag by that time.
He would benefit a lot from having a couple years starting every game and playing in a system around Luka that always make teammates look better and be well perceived around the league (DJJ, PJ, Gafford...)

I wonder if another hold down is his team asking for a starting spot promise and we don't want to do that? He will come to start, but JJ is a tough coach and probably doesn't love to give that leverage to a player, which I agree completely with.

On the report, it does seem Kuminga's side trying to pressure other teams to act

    He is good.
When Kerr decided to play him and I think Draymond was injured he averaged like Austin around 23-25 points and if he plays constantly he's not playing like Kuz one game is a new Jordan and in a few days barely makes any shots

P.S. In playoffs vs NBA championship New York he averaged 16 points, 4 rebounds and 1 steal on 57.6% from the field and 30% from three-point range.

Yup- I won’t even be upset if we don’t get him.
I’m not interested in players who have an over inflated view of themselves, especially after these past eight years.

The reason why Kaminga is such a lightning rod is because he satisfies a need we need. It’s like a Luka lob threat. And right now on the market he gives us that. He’s the only guy that gives us that. All we gotta do is sign him.

the same people that knew Westbrook wouldn’t work because he’s not a shooter and he needs the ball and you need shooters around LeBron.

know Kaminga will work because you need finishers and athletes around Luka and that’s what Kaminga does really good. I keep bringing up Worthy with Magic. Magic could find everybody but Worthy was the best finisher you could have because he opened it up. Magic drives worthy is there finishing.

Kaminga will be finishing when Luka is driving offense coming to Luka Kaminga is there on the lob or a cut to the basket. It’s just basketball.

Luka has a way connecting with guys. We know of his talent. One thing I’ll tell you. Everybody isn’t going to be a great guy. Everybody isn’t Austin Reaves. Kaminga has a skillset.

it’s not my job or anybody’s job in here to get Jonathan Kaminga to trust them. That’s JJ Reddicks job. And Jonathan Kaminga didn’t trust Steve Kerr. I don’t know what happened but he got pissed on the Warriors. And I think they put out some bad pr rep on his basketball ability and want from the game.

similar to Jaylin Brown. I want players to have confidence. I’d rather have a guy say I know I can get 40 than a guy like Knect that doesn’t know he can score. That’s what makes a superstar confidence. I absolutely believe Jonathan Kaminga is a 20 point a game scorer here. He scores easily.

but heyyyy we don’t need that. I know the response well we don’t want him chucking. You know what I would do with him???? Reverse it. Hey buddy. You better be shooting here cause If you don’t your going to the bench. You can’t play cop with these players and be like hey if you don’t learn and you take shots like that you’re sitting. That’s how you lose players. Hey if it’s a good shot for Luka it’s a great shot for you. just make sure it’s a great shot for the team and we win.

play for each other but through each other. Thiero needs to see how this guy works on his stuff. That’s how we build culture.

it just happens with Thybulle Thiero Carr Kaminga we just become extremely athletic and long. But what I like is you don’t have to lean on one guy they become fresh. And Williams now you have guys that can run with Luka and Reaves. Those athletes.

and you got Kessler. This team looks deep but they look balanced. And I have no issue saying they are a top 3 team in the western conference. If you know basketball you know that’s true. That’s what made Denver so good. The depth.

I think that’s what makes us better than San Antonio.

and you add Grimes and Mamu you’re adding elite shooting.

Usually I don't agree with Perk but h e was correct this time

    AI

    Jonathan Kuminga potential

If everything clicks, his ceiling is:

    A multi-time All-Star.
A 20–24 points per game scorer.
An All-Defense caliber wing who guards positions 2–4.
A player comparable stylistically to a more explosive version of Aaron Gordon offensively, or somewhere between Jaylen Brown and Pascal Siakam if his ball skills and jumper continue to improve.
His realistic outcome is probably a high-level starting forward who averages around 16–20 points while providing athleticism, transition scoring, and switchable defense. He doesn't necessarily need to become an elite three-point shooter, but he does need to become a reliable enough shooter that defenses can't ignore him.

The biggest factors that determine whether he reaches his ceiling are:

    Developing a consistent catch-and-shoot three.
    Improving decision-making with the ball.
Becoming a more efficient half-court scorer.
Landing in a system that gives him regular on-ball opportunities instead of limiting him to a complementary role.
As of this offseason, Kuminga's career has reached another turning point after his stint with the Atlanta Hawks. Atlanta declined its team option, making him an unrestricted free agent, and multiple teams have been linked to him. Where he signs next could have a major impact on whether he reaches that star-level potential.

    +1

Overall, I'd rate his potential as:

    Floor: Rotation forward.
    Most likely: Above-average starting forward.
Ceiling: Fringe superstar and perennial All-Star if his offensive skill development catches up to his elite athletic tools

i don't think AI has any insight into this (it's just regurgitating s*** it found on the internet), but i generally agree that his floor is playoff-playable forward. that's worth the 15-20m he's seeking. whether he gets it this year depends on the market, really.

his ceiling, for me, is a #3 guy on a contending team, but i think that's unlikely.

someone mentioned aaron gordon and andrew wiggins as analogs, and i agree. slightly different types of players, but all lotto picks who (and for whom people) had aspirations as a #1/#2, but they weren't good enough for that and instead hooked on as very valuable role players. i think kuminga would have put up bigger numbers had he played for losers like wiggins and gordon did early.
