Why do you guys think it's childish for LeBron to prolong?

He's taking a huge salary cut. Any decision he makes is consequential to him financially because he's got businesses to run as well.

If he goes to Miami, he's saving boatloads of $ even with a vet minimum because he's got other businesses earning significant income.

If you guys were in his position knowing that this could be his last team and he doesn't want to risk being stuck on a team that underperforms and then he has to get traded, you'd take your time as well.

None of us are in his shoes. There's a lot on the line for him while it is largely meaningless to us unless he goes to a contending WC team.

If you were asked to switch cities across the coast, I'm pretty sure you'd take longer than a couple of months to decide.

Let’s get it done. Kaminga 2 yrs. 50 million player option after the first year. 10 million is laughable. He won’t take that.

How hard is LeBron trying NOT to be the Bad Guy right now?

also, I love that Bleacher Report is so bored with no news we are having ranking contests on NBA players

both? shams is "reporting" what rich paul tells him. and rich paul isn't exactly truthful. even in this case "not waiting on anyone to do anything" could mean lots of things, imo. not waiting on specific things?

i've always thought it was cleveland, too, but i don't see how harden played along without having some serious assurances about his contract. he opted out of 42 million. if he's left just holding the bag...i just can't believe he'd risk it, tbh. my thought was they already had two numbers agreed to--one with lebron, one without (slightly higher amount), and harden would sign as soon as that was settled. if it was an S&T, feel like word would have already leaked. too many mouths would have to keep silent, right?

yeah. i'm still not 100% sure i follow the 5/150 thing (feel like i've read that it was offered by gs and shot down by turner but also that it was floated by turner and shot down by gs). and i could see why they'd choose the one year at 24m over the two, figuring they could get traded and extend to recover. the mistake, to me, was agreeing to the team option. whatever it it, he's lost a lot of money already and will likely be playing below market value next year, perhaps longer.

good news for him is that early signs indicate several teams will have space next year (as opposed to the three from this year), so he might have more of a crack at it. but that's another year you have to stay healthy and prove yourself in a new environment. next thing you know, you're schroder.

    Didn't thought about that angle.

I'm feeling Miami but to have a Decision 2.0 and choose again Miami over Cleveland is insane. I can already see the memes, I think it would be an awful decision from a PR and legacy perspective.

Miami makes the most sense. It gives him the possibility to continue being the main guy and have the ball on his hands more. It also surrounds him with elite defense with Bam, Giannis, Wiggins and Davion Mitchell.
But man, he can't do it again. Right? Right???
I hate agents. Even more these ones. They literally fudge these kids lives

he's going to be the main guy next to giannis? and with bam being the franchise's current favorite son?

i actually hate the fit there, tbh. not enough shooting anywhere, and any shooters they can get are going to be non-defenders at this stage in the game.

i still find it wild that with the exception of minnesota and philly that all the teams on the list require him to play sf on defense, which is not great!

Main guy in the sense of shot making, shot creation, especially in the clutch. Handling the ball, orchestrating the offense, that type of stuff.

But yeah shooting is an issue.
Agree with the sf thing, but would say that in Miami is less of an issue because he has Giannis and Bam behind so there are defensive schemes that can be done to protect him

A pretty decent round up on what's what at the moment.

I'm still at a C grade thus far on the offseason. Yeah we got younger and we got more unprovens too. We are banking on upside and potential, while locking in the bulk of the roster for 3-4 years. If things don't go as hoped; we will be stuck with minimal draft capital and some contracts that might be hard to move 2 seasons from now, with Luka's extension looming. The optimist in me says..it could all go as planned, but the pragmatic in me says..that's probably not going to happen. It will be somewhere in the middle.

I am looking forward to see how we deploy Thiero and Carr tho

two seasons from now, we will have more access to future picks if necessary, and those 4 -year deals will be two-year deals. none of the guys we signed have vando-level deficiencies, so i'm not super worried about it unless there are injuries, which we can't really control (none of the long-term guys we signed are obviously injury-prone, imo).

as for luka, i feel like we did what he wanted, roster-wise, and i expect he'll remember that when it's time to talk extension again.

Play them..warts and all. Carr has a little more time, but Adou should be thrown into the mix now. It would be great to have a couple of desirable RFA's of our own in a couple of years. We need to start collecting some "wins" with our player development strategy.

oh and from slick's article, this is what i feared:

we can't compete with cleveland if they want kuminga. i've mentioned charlotte a couple times as the wild card, and unfortunately, they appear to be willing to do exactly what is necessary for cleveland to have a chance. bummer on that front; more reason to root for them to sign lebron.

    edit:

this was also interesting-first time i've seen him mentioned in any way:

I think Cleveland makes the most sense because it's the only place, out of all the teams he is considering, that will actually do an "every home game is a celebration of you" type farewell tour for him. It's the only fanbase that universally loves him tbh. It's complicated with our fanbase and sure the Heat fans I think like him, but he did leave and he was only there for 4 years. Wade was always their guy.

I also think the Cleveland basketball fit isn't as bad its made out to be. Mitchell/Harden/LeBron/Mobley/Allen together is weird and clunky, agreed. Just bring Harden off the bench and stagger the minutes such that you're playing 2/3 of LeBron/Mobley/Allen together at all times, but you're only playing all 3 to start games and maybe close them. I honestly think Harden would be completely fine coming off the bench if they just give him the contract they promised him. I don't think he cares, he just wants the money. If for most of the game they're playing 2/3 of Mitchell/Harden LeBron but not all three, and then 2/3 of LeBron/Mobley/Allen but not all three, I actually like it tbh.

    Then this is weird lol

I got your comment, but there's hundreds of cases of "unproven" players helping teams in postseason.
I posted the other day about PJ and Gafford, who everyone considers "proven players" and they got to Dallas with worse careers then Grimes and Mamu. It's just how the league works.

It was impossible to get younger and get the so called "proven players" this summer. Those cost multiple picks and or 30+ million salary, like OG, Mikal, etc.

But yeah obviously it needs to be shown on court.
Nonetheless, I think Kessler alone gives the offseason a B grade. I think it has been an underrated get.
But I'm saving my offseason review for when the roster is complete.

Good points yeah. Agree with the farewell tour feeling. And from a documentary perspective, which seems to be a very important angle of this decision, Cleveland makes the most sense.

Yeah good idea bringing Harden off the bench. Agree he would be fine with it as long as he gets paid.
Because yeah, those 5 together I hate it. Even before Bron it was a weird fit and the 5th guy was so important defensively. Wade is seen as prime Bruce Bowen because nobody defends the perimeter there. But if Harden comes off the bench, it's a very powerful team. They'd always have 3 all-star type players on the court at all times, that's a lot of firepower.

I was very high on Gafford and Washington before they got traded to Dallas. I wanted us to trade for both around AD. Numbers wise..they both had similar production in Dallas, that they had in Charlotte and Washington previously. Their numbers didn't jump once they got to Dallas at all. They played on a better team. The difference for me, is both of those guys started a lot before getting traded. I'm not sure where you get the both, had worse careers, than Grimes and crazy Ivan stuff from...that is incorrect.
