Overall, I am intrigued by this roster and it looks like we might be really fun to watch. I don’t get how everything fits quite yet, but I do think we have a lot of happy people with their contracts and that will translate into excellent on court play in my opinion.

Good times ahead, and a likely Rob extension once fans see the on court product and get fired up with how much fun we are to watch compared to the last several years and the ball pounding.

You don't buy production that way. If that's how the NBA worked, every player would be the highest paid player in the league and the vet min wouldn't exist.

You do know that Luka ball is one of the most polarizing offensive strategies in the NBA, right?

This is one of the most respectful forums I have ever seen. I genuinely don’t get the view that people making valid critiques is bad or being overly negative.

Though I side with @Julio in a way, I don't think this off-season saved Pelinka's career. I do think a lot of people are going in with torches and pitchforks a little too soon. We have to see what JJ runs. We have to see if Luka can run a team similarly to how Magic did for a while. We have to see how everyone meshes.

I trust that Luka and Reaves both okay'd most every deal and know how they want to play this, and I think they are going to be exciting and fun to watch. My perfect world hope, would be that the Lakers mesh enough to get 5th or 6th seed when the Playoffs come around, but we have to wait and see.

Again, if they start 6-0, I will celebrate accordingly (and dramatically) even though I know it's not fully realistic. If they go 0-6, same but obviously with emotions in reverse and a little more desire for Pelinka's head. But REALLY, in that first week of the season...I am going to expect a simple .500 to start, and then after that we will adjust and figure things out. December and January is where I will really express if this off-season was a bust or not.

I have to give things time to breath.

There are a lot of different ways to look at teams and how they are built

If Rob can somehow resign Rui or trade for Kuminga or another starting level forward it would really change my feeling about the potential of this squad and the job he's done this offseason. Especially since we have no cap space and no picks left.

This would be the, what, fourth of fifth time this forum has given Rob Exec of the Year in the offseason?

Sure. Why not. Gotta come true one of these times right?

We also need to acknowledge that there weren't any good FA's this offseason. We need to evaluate Rob based on the situation he faced. Yes, we could have stayed put and added around the edges, but losing Lebron changes things.

As for the Kessler trade, we were dealing with Danny Ainge, one of the most shrewd and ruthless GM's in the league. We asked about Kessler multiple times, for over a year now, and our packages including one 1st + assets were declined every time. That was Kessler with an expiring (one year remaining) contract. This time around, we got Kessler for 4 years, so it shouldn't surprise anyone that we had to dish out everything we had. Yes, it would have been nice if we packaged Vando into the deal, but dumping Vando is damn near worth a 1st on it's own, and Ainge wasn't going to accept that. Honestly I feel it was a fair deal for a young and elite rim-protector.

As for free agency, there are 30 teams and we aren't going to get every good FA. Rob did the best he could in a scarce market. For the pessimists, remember where we were before AD got traded, and suddenly our outlook doesn't look so bad. We are now one of the youngest teams in the league, with a promising Big 3.

it's ainge's son, but yes, we have tried to trade first rounders for him before. we never had two to trade. when we got two to trade for him, we traded them for him.

utah reportedly offered him 5/185, right? if my numbers are right, our starting year is probably ~2m more than theirs. that's it. so the team that had him felt he was worth exactly what we did, meaning they felt he would be a) worth it on the court or b) worth it in trade going forward. 2 1sts and expirings doesn't get you a player of that caliber on the open market (unless you're boston yesterday, lol).

as for the rest, the player options suck. totally legitimate to ask why the brooklyn nets can have a team option on keon ellis and we have to have a player option on collin sexton. that's some b******* and bad work, imo.

rob nailed the really hard part and screwed up the small parts, which is kind of the synopsis of his time here. i care more about the large parts, so i'm ok with it. but i can't really argue that we didn't get worked on all three of the other contracts.

Utah offered him 140m over 5 years. We offered him 130m over 4 years - about 4.5m difference in average annual value.

Walker Kessler is paid real well. He starts at 30 and finishes at 35. Great contract.

Your right about the small parts vs large parts regarding Rob. Someone needs to ask him why he insists on gifting player options.

oh i thought i read 5/185. anyway, still really close to what they offered annually, which is telling to me.

i thought we'd have to go at or near the max to get them to even come to the trade table.
