If we keep Bron and Rui, it will pretty hard to add more than 1 wing defender. I think we need at least 2 if not 3. More athletic and better in defense.

I'd retain only 1 of Bron/Rui, I think both together don't work with Luka.
And doing anything other than that is pretty lazy from the FO.
There's so many options to add 2 to 3 wings that failing to do it is due to lack of creativity.
Herb, Watson, Johnson, Braun, Dort, Eason, Murphy, Thybulle, Grimes, Ellis, PJ Washington, Marshall, Bey, both Wiggins and the list goes on. There will be a ton of wings available that fit better than Rui right now and give more long term options than Bron. I'd rather go that path

Not sure who I prefer. Bron is obviously the best player but there's an argument that this is the best year to move off of him

unless miami's holding stuff back (which, it is riley...), we can't sensibly beat the offer, imo. nor should we want to, as you say.

i do like using the threat of us to drive prices higher everywhere, though! we always have to pay a tax on our own moves, let's add the laker threat tax to everyone else's! that's what kessler's doing right now in utah: well, the lakers want to pay me, and i'd rather play there! maybe i take a QO and go there next year?

Rob is entering Jim Buss territory with Jim's 3-4 year promise. He's not quite there, but he's had us waiting for this magical '26 summer for years. Kicking it all down the road until this magical summer. Now that we've arrived, it ain't so special. We're not getting Giannis (i didn't want him) and FA sucks. Only two other teams are showing up to this summer as buyers and neither are even playoff level teams. Did he misread it this poorly?

Luka is applying pressure and his camp is leaking the promises made for the summer of '26. It's been leaked that now we're focused on the trade market because FA isn't impressive. All while Rob has to show new ownership that he deserves to be here.

And like I said in the big thread, he basically has one NBA season to accomplish that the Knicks did in 3 years.

There's options, there's pathways. But they're narrow and have to go perfect for this to work and for him to save his job.

Vegas isn't on his side. I'm doubtful and hopeful at the same time.

 

i think that once again, he probably has plans that nobody knows about or has considered. he's done this on a few occasions when everyone assumed he was dead.

but i've been saying for a while that if this offseason is a bust, he'll be out the door, and i won't be defending him anymore. i've understood most of what he did that pissed everyone off the past few years, but holding onto everything for this offseason only to have it not accomplish the primary goals would be grounds for termination.

so, what are those goals? basically, make significant progress on a luka-based roster. that means a real lob threat center and at least one more starting quality perimeter defender. if rob can't make that happen whilst retaining reaves, he's gone. if lebron walks, he has to add ANOTHER impact player, or else, again, fired.

i'm just wondering who's serving as the governor over his head to keep him from doing something super crazy to save his job. like i wonder if walter's got to approve anything that involves the 2031 pick, etc.

 

I'm irritated we don't have the full front office filled out yet. We're 3 days from the draft and still without the other assistant GM.

They wouldn't be in position to block Rob, but would help give him the best information/resources to succeed.

I also don't like that we've kept some hirings undisclosed. They said they added people, but are they people who are capable of helping the decision makers or are they members of the accounting team. Based on how thin we were running the FO, who knows. But that info could be useful.

But the Dodgers people they have helping out, I'm sure are keeping a very close look at Rob and have the notepad in hand. Anything Rob even thinks about doing, I'm sure it's getting back to Walter before anything happens.
