Every Laker MVP in Lakers history has won the MVP when the team was a 1 seed EXCEPT the last year a player won an MVP on a losing team in 1976. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

The Lakers could field an all time top 5 team in the NBA and there have only been 4 players who have won an MVP for the Lakers. 8 total. 6 of those were Kareem and Magic. Pretty sad. East Coast voters and those pigs in the Ohio area have cost Laker players several MVPs.

yeah, i do think him being foreign is an issue (though clearly not the deciding issue, as voters love jokic), but the disrespect is like, 70% lakers bias. the other part, as i mentioned before, is just that he's a demonstrative player who really rips fans' hearts out, and writers and voters are fans, largely of "not the lakers".

Players voted for MVP then, until 1980 which was the last time Cap won. Cap would have won more if it was players who voted, MVP candidate probably until 83

I don't mind the hate or disrespect. Being foreign, a ball hog, or the complaining I can understand.

Just don't use defense as the reason why he's not a MVP candidate. Aside from Wemby and maybe Cade, no other MVP candidate plays better defense than Luka. The numbers back this up. The narrative is stupid and ignorant. The "no defense" premise is somehow only applied to Luka and it pisses me off. I hope we meet up with OKC and attack SGA relentlessly. That will silence this dumb narrative.

we went after murray relentlessly last time we played denver, to great effect. you never hear about murray being a bad defender, though.

i don't see how you can even put SGA ahead of luka when you look at OKC's roster compared to the lakers. if you take SGA off that team, they're still incredibly deep

I don't really have an issue with Shai and Wemby being ahead of Luka on the MVP ladder. Their teams are 10 and 8 games, respectively, ahead of Luka's and they're having pretty crazy seasons themselves. Luka will have to be on a 60 win/1 seed caliber team at some point to win MVP.

back to just defining terms, though, right?

like, if i'm starting a team, i take luka over SGA (unless i know for a fact the refs are coming with him). i probably take wemby or jokic ahead of luka, though. the gap isn't as big as the fans and media like to say, though, imo.

wemby's the only one i'd put over luka in the MVP race. maybe jokic too. even jaylen brown has a stronger case than SGA in my opinion

Yeah I choose Wemby and Jokic over Luka if I'm starting a team too. SGA is really good too, he's not just getting fouls. It's not a landslide between both. It's a matter of siding with Luka's gap offensively being higher than SGA's defensive gap.

I'm curious to see how the playoffs go, that's where you really prove who's the better and can lead the team to the Finals.

The West will be awesome to see. Apart from OKC and Spurs in the first round, it should be full of tight series and tight games.
And Clippers may steal a couple games against San Antonio and if Curry's back it would be fun against OKC

I'd only take Wemby over Luka. Jokic is a better player currently but he's also 3-4 years older than Luka. I don't buy for once second that SGA is better than Luka. Replace SGA with Luka and OKC would have the best defense AND offense in the league. Yet there's this other narrative that Luka needs the perfect pieces around him to succeed, which also pisses me off.

Jaylen has a really good case. He has led the C Bags to a much better record than anyone thought possible, and unlike SGA, he legitimately plays great defense.

Sure OKC roster is way better and deeper

BUT 31.5 pts a game on 55.7% from the field as a shooting guard is very impressive .

SGA is having a great clutch season too .

Luka is just taking too many 3s and missing too many FT s ..
