rescuing rui from page 2 with this thought:

unless he shows up big in the playoffs or something, he looks on pace for a pay decrease in the offseason. if, say, he's looking at a bunch of tmple type offers, does he come back here on a cheap one-year deal to preserve his bird rights? perhaps in a hot dog stand situation?

if he gets offered full mle elsewhere, he obviously takes it. but if it's tpmle or vet min here whilst retaining bird rights, i'd almost opt for the latter, especially with hot dog stand/kcp wink/winks involved.

i suppose we can also S&T him somewhere, but that would have to fit into our other plans, and that's a tough needle to thread.

you know the Lakers season has turned around when its' time to start yelling at Rui again (in all seriousness this is exactly why he doesn't get more rebounds - box your man out)

maybe i need a different angle, but it looks to me like he does box out there, and the ball just comes off a little long and toward the baseline?

guess you could argue he could have had a body on him earlier, but that would make helping on a potential drive harder. and i guess he could have gotten into him a bit more, but that would be a foul, too.

rui's a bad rebounder for his size, but i'm not sure why this is the play that had lebron riled up.

Every Single Play has him riled up- except of course the ones in which he dribbles the ball out of bounds with little to no pressure.
Most people don’t improve with a constant berating style seen by all whom watch NBA ball. Try the carrot once in awhile over the stick, my guy.

I don’t understand this post or the context? Sorry, sometimes the English thing still gets me confused.

A comment saying LeBron gets mad at everyone else’s perceived mistakes (the unsuccessful box out by Rui) and ignoring his own blunders. And saying a more encouraging leadership style can be better suited. Referring to training the (whichever animal) to move forward with a carrot dangled from a stick held out in front of it as a “reward”, rather that yelling at the other player in front of everyone.

IDK, looked to me that LeBron was upset Rui let Amen get into position earlier. I think in a way this shows why Rui is such a poor rebounder. He boxes out stationary way too much instead of just jumping up and contesting that rebound. Amen just jumps over him. But I think what got LeBron upset is that was an airball and with the shotclock running out, Rui fouled him despite both of them double teaming him.

Now that I think about it, I think that is why Rui is such a poor rebounder. Instead of just grabbing it, he boxes out for position instead. Not always necessary to box out when you are in position to also grab it.

Thank you LT! Funnily enough, posting on forums has improved my comprehension a ton over the last 10 years.

Yeah I think that's a fair criticism of Lebron. I do like that he has bought in enough to be critical, he clearly believes in the team. Rui has lots of physical tools, but for whatever reason just a really poor feel for the game. I feel like if we had Handy around still, he would educate and talk Rui through it - you can just kind of see Lebron's frustration in the form of: "Really? You still don't get it?". I also think Luka can be like that too. It's nice to have smart to even it out because having buy in from role players is so critical.

part of how i justify time-wasting on this forum is that it gives me some practice writing/constructing arguments, which i do as part of my job pretty frequently.

I actually agree with you posting on forums (not the same as twitter social media) really helps with writing critical arguments

Sounds funny but it forces a couple of things. Arguments have to be more concise: you run into tl;Dr issues on the net. Yet you still have to present a cogent argument otherwise on forums in particular people turn on you quickly. The combination of feedback and a community which tends to know the material makes it harder to get away with s*** posting and you might get meme'd if it just a dumb argument

That’s why I practice long winded points on here, I read over them and really try to be more clear and concise. If you looked back at my work emails from the mid 2010s to now, there is a remarkable improvement.

Also I think it helps improve one’s ability to be convincing, you have to really logically structure arguments, have strong factual knowledge and appeal to emotions to even come close to convince a homer fan of anything other than their strong held beliefs. It’s great practice!

True. And whether effective or not, I believe these 3 things aren't sacrosanct just because they're in the correct thread for them. One's opinion and of course everyone has one, but not get out of jail free card clearly myself included. Over the top (in someone else's opinion) optimism or WMC posts.

Going to sound like old man yelling at clouds but the early internet was just better for humanity - blogs, forums, no social media, no AI slop. The algorithms/click bait just killed the intellectual push the early internet had - the death of Google Reader was a turning point.

I had to even to learn to turn down the vitriol because in forums you get to know people in a way that just doesn't happen in the walled gardens of social media. Can't convince people by calling them stupid lol

Totally agree, the early internet was an amazing thing and something we should rue that we let slip, today it's just faceless profiles on social media and the rise of the bots.
