Deandre Ayton Discussion: This Is A Platform I Can't Run From

Los Angeles Lakers center Deandre Ayton was briefly detained Tuesday while at an airport in the Bahamas on suspicion of being in possession of a "very small amount of marijuana," according to Ayton's lawyer, Devard Francis.

Ayton, a native of the Bahamas who has also served as a member of the men's national team, was detained at Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau. Francis said the marijuana had been in someone else's bag and Ayton was quickly released after a brief investigation.

"The investigators saw that the actual very small amount of marijuana wasn't in Deandre's bag, but they still went through their investigations and he was released expeditiously," Francis told Reuters in a statement.

As of the most recent CBA agreement, players are no longer tested for marijuana and it has been removed from the banned substance list. But marijuana remains illegal in the Bahamas.

I was a huge fan of the Ayton signing but it's over. I have no idea why he can't finish anymore. HE was automotic within 10 feet to start the year now he blows layups

Would love to be proven wrong but it is what it is. He’s worth what we are paying him but is clearly not the answer for us at center.

after our experience with dlo, i'm wondering if when he opts in, we'll immediately move him.

 

I think there’s a good chance of it. I don’t hate the idea of him as a backup but he’s just not reliable enough for us to count on.

 

yikes. yeah, you're not going to be successful with a "let russ be russ" attitude unless you're a superstar. this is a terrible way to ingratiate yourself here or elsewhere.

 

Was a fan of the signing, but this experiment seems pretty much over. The whole culture of the entire team/organization is pretty bad though.

yeah, our culture sucks this year, so that hasn't helped, but i'm not sure where he's going to be successful with his attitude.

it's weird, but the capela quote is what's doing it for me more than the inconsistent play/motor. i just don't think there are teams out there that are going to start you and let you get offense designed to your strengths, which are mostly midrange. maybe if you played off the bench, teams might try to find ways to use your offensive strengths, but not as a starter.

anyway, before reading that, i was inclined to say that lebron, in particular, is a tough guy to play with if you don't perform. he doesn't have a lot of patience, and he will and does throw people under buses. but this isn't about that. it's about ayton still not accepting that he's the guy who has to adapt.

even more fun as we're about to play phx, who made our mark williams trade and ridden it to unexpected success this year, with him playing in 54 of the 59 games they've had.
