Nice read on the Athletic. It was the first game Bill McDonald ever called for the Lakers, and sat next to Stu which he was honored to do because he was a life long Lakers fan and revered Chick. He had been doing pre and post game Lakers shows but his broadcasting assignments and sports were all over the map. Joel Myers was assigned to work the NFC Championship game between Carolina and Seattle and Billy got the call. Wasn’t until 5 years later he became full time. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/69...-lakers-broadcast/?source=user_shared_article
6 years already. It used to be unbelievable but you just kinda accept the loss and grief as time goes.
it's a shame the media hated kobe so much during his prime, and it's also a shame that analytics kind of pushed to the forefront at the same time, as kobe's probably the perfect case of the stats probably not capturing the reality. and i used advanced stats to inform my thinking a lot--but things like stoudemire was saying get obscured a bit with obsessions about efficiency.
