i think the problem for me is that it's clearly meant to make her look awful and that's the best they could do.

i want her out just for the rambii alone, tbh, so it's not like i'm jeanie's #1 fan, but it honestly sounds like it's just more of the younger busses just kind of throwing an adult tantrum. right down to several instances in the article where they're like "you know we could have thrown like nine more tantrums but didn't!" so you're doing it now. way to go.

Or maybe she is just awful. I mean, Jesus Christ..

“It's not clear when Jeanie learned about the promise between JoAnn and her father, but when she spoke over the phone with Jesse on that 2019 call, in what multiple sources with knowledge of it say marked a sharp pivot from the topic of the Davis news conference, she brought it up.

Given that promise between her mother and father, Jeanie told Jesse, "You should've never been born."

Jesse processed the words, according to the three people briefed on the call.

    "You should've never been born."”

Yeah. I think she looks bad in a lot of ways both personal and professional.

This is a hit piece for sure but pretty damning IMHO.

Love the Lakers and long for the day when we didn't know too much about people's lives and only focused on the sport.

Not going to click or watch to support it. They will all be gone soon enough I suppose, but like abeer said, it's all unbecoming.

What makes me buy the jealousy, infighting, resentment, that Jeanie isn’t just this sweet person, stuff like that, is that she blindsided them with this sale, they had to vote right away, and that everyone was fired except for her, she gets to stay on 5 years while the brothers are out. That’s conniving, that’s cold. They were clearly groomed by their father to take over someday, right or wrong, and I get being incredibly upset at that not happening because Jeanie makes all the decisions. I’m not a fan, I hate that she was given 5 years after how mediocre this franchise has been, I hate that the Rambii are still here, I’m hoping like hell that it doesn’t go the full 5 and she and they are booted relatively soon.

I think she will be gone sooner. Maybe this whole article is part of plan to get her to go ahead and walk away. I don't know but I will be surprised if she is around the whole five years.

so tired of this mom and pop shop drama. no reason for jeanie to stick around with walter taking over

and the lebron stuff is dumb. everyone knows it was he and AD pushing for westbrick and lebron's rightfully taken the blame for it from fans/the media

Wanting accountability from everyone else while not taking any blame herself is a big part of the problem with Jeannie's entire run as head of the organization.

LeBron doesn't have the final say. She does. Lebron has wanted a lot of players.

I want someone running the team who can say no.

I’m meant the part about wanting accountability for everybody else, but not taking any blame himself

i typed a longer response, but i'm still just not ready buy the buss brothers' story at face value. like i'm sure jeanie could find a journalist to write a hit piece on them (e.g., i have a strong suspicion some balls were dropped in jesse's department the past couple years), but it would further hurt the franchise she still works for, so it's not a good option (it's never a good option, anyway).

my hope is that the bonuses negotiated (and here i believe the brothers--jeanie definitely negotiated; it wasn't just a random offer that paid all her friends) were golden parachutes that all those folks take on outta here.

It’s good to hear the younger Buss bros side of things, that is Joey and Jesse. They are the guys I feel for the most as the were the most invested in the team and how it worked. The elder four’s dysfunctionality has been publicly documented for decades so no real surprise there. But wow about the mom Joann and that brutal line that Joey and Jesse shouldn’t have been born and Jeannie dropping it to them (if true). Harsh. That attitude towards them makes some sense then that what the elders wanted (to cash in) prevailed over their idea to sell a minority stake.

I’ll give Jeannie this, she found a great buyer in Mark Walter and company who is already touted deservedly for his success with the Dodgers. And you can’t argue the selling price of $10 billion. Each Buss sib walks off with 1/2 billion after taxes! We should all suffer sour grapes like that! She understood that she couldn’t compete against the billionaire owners any more and did the right thing. She also did the right thing kicking Jim out. And signing Lebron and Ad and winning a ring. So she did well by the family.

this is crucial to me and was always my biggest beef. the younger busses tried to hand-wave at it in the article, but it's an issue. note they didn't say they had grand plans to spend with the ballmers, they said it doesn't matter due to the salary cap and aprons. that's disingenuous to me. first of all, the clippers have shown that if you have enough money, the cap doesn't even exist, really. further, all the other stuff (coaches, gms, scouting, medical staff, etc.) matters. people talk about how small our operation was, and i believe that. i don't believe that the younger busses wouldn't have just pulled their own version of keeping in the family with a different cast playing the roles of the rambii, etc.

we're the biggest brand in the game; let's catch up with how modern franchises are run.

I agree all the way. They did wave it off and that goes to show the right person is in charge. They weren’t being realistic, they were trying to keep their own dreams alive but it wasn’t a feasible plan at the end of the day nor would it payout for the elders in this manner. This was the best course of action. I just hope the Rambii disappear sooner than later. Rob I’m on the fence with. He bought himself some leeway obviously with the Luka trade.

rob can stay or go. what can't happen is rob doing the whole job by himself anymore, imo. i really don't think anyone does that. i get why he wouldn't want to work with magic, but someone with real nba gm experience--and relationships--could certainly help.
