A roster that has nothing to do with what Luka needs to perform at his best.
And it has even less to do with what Luka needs to avoid squeezing him like a lemon.

In the end, it's January 13th, and already with enormous signs of excessive usage (after all, he was at a career high at the start of the season), the rest of the roster hasn't made a single step forward to allow the season to go to waste.

 

AR and Jake / Jaxson (somewhat those 2) excluded. Ayton and Smart and Vando in spurts. IMO.

 

yeah, lebron and luka don't fit, sort of like lebron and AD didn't fit as each declined athletically. to make it work with lebron/luka/AR, the other two guys on the floor need to be athletes who can cover a ton of ground defensively and finish plays. you need like, jarrett allen and cason wallace or something. ironically, you can do more with less talent if your parts fit better, imo.

 

Luka is shooting 32% from three this season on TEN attempts per game.

He is a career 35% shooter from three.

He's becoming a below average shooter. How has he been this bad at shooting but takes so many attempts?

That last part is the key IMO. If we can identify guys who are good in the areas we need, we can still do well even if they are lesser overall players.

 

mentioned this the last time people were complaining about his shooting percentage. you'd think people would remember kobe's solo years and how people used his fg% as some sort of condemnation of his ability. notice nobody ever left him open for any reason ever.

 

When thinking about whether he'd play in this one, I forgot he hates the Hawks for passing on him. Dropped 73 on them two years ago.

Count me out on this Luka at 4 defensively post Lebron stuff. That would be a disaster IMO, I love Luka on offense but he doesn't really try much on D, especially in the post. He'd stay in foul trouble IMO, I just don't see that as being realistic.

 

1. he does try and especially in the post.
2. most 4s aren't posts.
3. we'd much rather a team try to post luka than to pull him out into perimeter isos against multi-threat offensive players. teams will invite you to try to beat them with post-ups from anything other than a handful of elite centers, tbh.

but yeah, let's go away from how his team made the finals because we believe that the nba took a time machine back to 1992.

 

"The 4" doesn't mean anything anymore defensively. You want one of your forwards to be a wing stopper and the other to be in a low man/helper role. You without a doubt want Luka to do the latter rather than the former because the latter makes better use of his best defensive attribute - his brain.

i've tried to explain this many times, but the narrative is too strong. luka is actually NOT a bad defender. he's just not a great one, due to physical limitations. he's better than reaves simply because he's bigger and isn't asked to do as much that's outside his ability.

omg stop talking. and the whole "you're trying to trap me" was planned ahead of time.

the idea that you can't have two on-ball offensive players is also just completely untrue.

and then kellerman claiming luka's not a willing defender but curry is. sure, jan. curry, jokic, and luka are all ok defenders because they try hard and are super smart (ironically, curry is consistently the weakest among them by the metrics i trust). so despite major physical limitations, they do well. kind of ancient lebron, who's still ok on defense despite moving like a mummy on many nights. nobody talks about anthony edwards on defense because he's athletic. well, it doesn't show in the numbers. maybe he's not "willing". dumbshits.
