College basketball is being played now So if he's quick to fill the positions then they can get right to work
agree. unless...that staff quit working hard 18 months ago. we'll see how it all pans out. the new guys will have a very tough act to follow, for sure.
Right, but wouldn’t you want to take your time to find the best leader for the new group? I know I would. Unless, of course, this new guy has already been selected.
I'm pro the move just because it distances ourselves from the family brand and the level of dysfunction that it dissolved into. They were a couple of the more skilled people in the front office with some great finds but they voted against the sell and are walking away with nearly one billion dollars. They're fine. You can belive as much of the Rob stuff as you want, it's much easier for me to believe the Jeanie stuff. Anytime you don't talk to your decision making bosses for 5 months, it's simply not good. It's a small office with virtually a skeleton front office, that takes work to avoid that interaction. Regardless of who's fault, we don't need the drama or the nepo part of it. Let non related people come in who are only employed because they're the right person for the job(s). I imagine we'll probably have the filled some of the scout positions by January. Whoever we add, i imagine a couple of them will be poaches so it's not like they'll be coming in blind on the upcoming draft. I'm more interested in us finally addressing the nba scout positions than replacing our ncaa scouts.
agree. but even as (perhaps the lone) rob defender here, if this is the case, why not just fire literally everybody? it's defensible. starting with the guys who did well is weird, even if it's clear they had a foot out the door.
It seems obvious there were bad feelings and communication and attitude both sides between the brothers and Jeanie following the No vote from them to the sale and her pushing it through while still having the governor title protected for herself to stay involved. No time and place for that drama in the FO with the new owner here. Mark probably felt it as well, so Jeanie axed them. Plus they did already start up their big new sports venture. Magic Part Deux with the outside business interests.
I don't think you can pull off the heist of the century and get fired until you do something to offset that. It's a big summer coming up, if he bungles that then maybe in the summer of '27 but Nico bought Rob a really nice runway.
It sure seems to me that almost every time the fans start to feel like we should move on from him, he goes and does something really solid.
i didn't think he deserved to be fired even before the luka trade. i just think if you believe an organization is fully dysfunctional, the most sensible choice is to clear everyone out.
Isn’t the assumption now that Jeanie made the formal move not Walter? Seems like it might relate to ongoing animosity due to their not wanting the team to be sold?
yeah, i guess. i just keep going back to why would walter let jeanie make these decisions right now? he should be in control of this stuff, right?
I think Walter is in control but is likely still setting up his pieces on the chess board and finding out who his team will be. Also, given the personal nature of this I do think he is letting Jeannie deal with some of the messier aspects of this with her family as the transition happens. I get that, but I do feel like a complete overhaul is still on the table. It just won't happen fast in this case. Just brainstorming here, but I don't get the sense they want to be rash and are trying to balance that against not wanting to deal with lingering drama from the previous regime. I suspect they are doing their due diligence on that to figure who's going to be on board with the way things will be run and who isn't. Also, probably don't want come in right out of the gate ripping things completely apart since they likely don't have all the guys they are looking at in place and ready to take over the reigns. Better to do that in the offseason if its possible.
