Didn’t see it posted here, but The Athletic article has direct quotes from one of the brothers that this was a long time coming. They had been increasingly disconnected from Jeannie and Rob and the new ownership just clinched it.

Podcasts/radio covering the Buss firings. There’s some really interesting quotes by Jesse in the LakersNation video from an Athletic article I think. Seems like this was going to happen for a while, was not actually a Mark Walter decision but a Rob and Jeanie one, and now I’m wondering how much actual impact the Buss bros had in the draft the last couple years.

What I want to know is, who was responsible for getting Reaves and Caruso? Keep that guy.

That was the Buss boys. Kuz and several others among their picks. They had some whiffs like any other group but overall were good at their jobs

All roads lead here once they opposed the sale IMHO.

Rob should make sure he’s smoothed over that relationship with Magic though.

yeah, i'd heard that, but it was basically from the sources that blame ebola on rob. the simpler story is that a) we tried to trade that pick and b) our primary targets were off the board. so, yeah, ultimately it was rob's call, but we never heard a peep that someone internally wanted podz or jacquez or whatever. except me. i wanted podz. check the receipts.

the guy who traded for both AD and luka is the reason we can't build, huh? sorry, man, just so much sour grapes from these "sources". rob's made two terrible moves: the westbrook trade, and letting caruso walk. and in both instances, it's pretty easy to say they weren't fully his call.

not sure what world has daryl morey as a great basketball mind and pelinka as an idiot who doesn't understand the game or the business, but that's the one the bloggers would have you believe exists...

He may have already been shown the door since the entire scouting dept reportedly was fired.

Yup. Losing Caruso was all on Jeanie because of her penny pinching ways and we know who forced Rob into the Brick trade.

To be honest, given the way decisions were made by the front office I’ve always felt that individual credit or blame for moves was difficult. I don’t think missing on a pick was a big deal if he was the one who made the call.

With the article, I also take it with a huge grain of salt. While I jokingly attribute it to Magic, I have no doubt other execs out there would love to swoop in and take over this franchise with deep pocket owners and they are circling.

We will see many of these kinds of “leaks” over the season but I think Rob will get a fair chance honestly.

and i don't really care about rob, tbh. i just think a lot chatter is clearly from envious outsiders. he's unpopular in the press. daryl morey's a media darling. the narratives don't match the results in either case, for a reason.

Not much of a Rob fan but getting Luka for what he did was diabolical, he arguably overpaid for AD but clearly robbed the Mavs
