Typically when a player works on shooting in the off-season it can take a bit to show up in games. Adjust what you fixed to game speeds. It may or may not show up but I wouldn't be concerned for awhile.
i don't think he looked better. he looked like vando, which is good. he had a nice finish--one jj remarked he hadn't seen (decelerated euro step, pretty nice)--but imo, it wasn't surprising. he has good body control. his problem is finishing at the rim, particularly above the rim or in traffic. that move was just around someone with a free lane at the point of release. he nailed an open corner three but kind of badly missed the two semi-contested corner threes he took. otherwise, he was a menace on defense as always. he disrupted their first two possessions, and curry had to work to get the ball and get clean looks. curry hit everything, as he sometimes does, but not because it was easy. anyway, vando looked like the guy who's helped us win games when he's been available. gabe was the guy who looked like someone we haven't seen before, imo (hitting threes on the move, getting penetration on offense, just generally being noticeable on that end).
He got 2 steals in the first 36 seconds of the game. That tells you all you need. He looks really good physically. Best player of the preseason so far. But yes, it's still the same Vando. If he continues he will be great for us in the regular. Might get played off the floor in postseason, but he has a few months to change that. For now, if he keeps it up like this we get the best version we have seen of him previously, and that a guy is a core rotation piece who impact games when he's on the floor
He was back to his normal Tazmanian Devil Self on defense and actually made a leaning step through layup. We will need his defensive intensity all season since it’s lacking in many of our high minutes guys.
I didn’t watch the game only highlights but his form on that corner three he sunk looked way batter than past seasons. He used to pull the ball from his hip but it looked more compact so hopefully that means a quicker release and more consistency. Glad to hear he was his usual self on D. Can’t wait for the regular season
Cmon bruh.... Next closest defender on him was at the rim and he clanks the corner of the rim and backboard...
He looks... healthy. And i think that's really case. Ride that wave until it crashes and it will because of his style of play. It was nice to see him scorch the net in practice and in the summer but in- game, like like more of the same. Same hands on offense too, unfortunately.
It's getting in his head. Stupid tech on Green and he's definitely looking like a deer in the headlights once he misses a jumper. Tough he needs to stay aggressive but be smart about it. Maybe better off when he's wide open is dribble to a dribble handoff to a shooter like Luka or AR and when he screens that will give them a wide open jumper. Green ironically does this really well. He uses the fact that defense ignore him to still be a threat by passing and playing smart Problem with Vando is he's got s*** hands so you can trust him on the short roll like Green
Ben Simmons, bunch of social media of him working on corner 3s all net, in gm horrendous bricks, no handles stone hand too
Might want take a look at Ben Simmons off season work out highlights....gota stop making excuses for Vando, its been long enough
But, but... he swished 3's in all these training videos, worked on his shot all summer etc. I told you, he is who he is and we'll ALWAYS play 4 on 5 with him in the lineup.
i was on record as both a non-believer and non-carer re: vando's threes. he's not going to be able to do it. move past it, vando and everyone. he needs more reps taking it to the rim on the short roll instead of spending any time ever parked in the corner. you use non-shooters by involving them as screeners, passers, ballhandlers. i was encouraged by some stuff in the preseason in this regard, but he just needs live action reps here. not sure he can get them while we're trying to win games. but gs is a bad vando matchup just like it's a bad center matchup. kerr makes you pay for skill and/or hoop iq deficits. vando's reasonably intuitive but fully unskilled. it's why kerr hates kuminga and is only playing him to up his trade value.
twitterati are bagging on JJ's lack of set plays - it's been a consistent issue with him getting his players into the best spots for them to succeed. JJ seems really focused on getting his main guys into spots like Luka attacking Gobert last year but loses track of what is best for the team if feels like. You have to have good play calls to maximize bad players more then good players.
Yeah, this guy is going to take some seasons to figure it out. Hopefully by then, we will have the right pieces around Luka who can shoot and defend.
