i've only been able to see highlights, but he basically looks like he did before the calf injury, which, it turns out, did not in fact end his career.

man, that guy really had it in the bag and just...got in his own way. dallas was in great position for long-term contention, imo.

they had a very sensible luka/pj/lively frontcourt with kyrie as a bridge second star in the backcourt who would eventually cycle out for complementary guards. and nico just couldn't handle the cultural/interpersonal differences between his vision and luka's nature. add in novice owners and you got a complete meltdown. i'm not even sure winning the flagg sweepstakes will fix it, tbh (though if anything could, that's it).

I couldn't agree more. You nailed it. Someone asked me if Flagg would draw me back in. Nope. That shipped sailed. I'm a Lakers fan now.

the mavs have been my adopted second team for 25 years, and i have trouble mustering enthusiasm for them now even though they got flagg and have AD, who was one of my favorites before he even became a laker. i just think that franchise can't move on until harrison is gone. every single thing he does is just sort of tainted by the luka trade--like i find myself questioning all they do. hell, it's quite clear that they don't really have a good plan with their crowded frontcourt already. "we'll just play flagg or washington at the 2!" good lord.

anyway, this is the luka thread--money would have slovenia out today, right?

if they don't excel as catch and shoot (rarely) play hard defense role and shut ur pie hole, he has just traditionally traded them.

With the GM's permission of course. But now, with new guys calling the shots and old man on his last legs, it's anyone's guess what will be happening.

Luka Dončić received a nomination for the title of Best Defensive Player from FIBA at EuroBasket. Luka Dončić is in contention for the award for the tournament's best defender. The Slovenian point guard leads EuroBasket in both average (3.2) and total (19) steals. Dončić has secured a spot in the FIBA fan voting, which will be taken into account in determining the winner in the Best Defensive Player category.

As of the morning of September 10, Dončić is leading the voting with 26% of the votes.

But if you can't stay in front of the speediest PGs you suck on D and are called a traffic cone. :D ;)

How much is Germany favored by today? Can Luka pull off the impossible?

Yell at the confetti for us KG. :swear: :swear: :swear:

Same here. I just can't get behind all that Nico has done. I would LOVE to see Gafford and Washington in LA. But, I know that's not happening. We are putting together a good team though in LA now around Luka. I'm pretty excited for the season.

I would say that Slovenia shouldn't make it past today. But, Luka doesn't go down easy. He is on a different level right now.

I have a feeling we won't be seeing a Dallas-Lakers trade for a looooong time.

The backlash they would receive for doing any trade with the Lakers at this point will be too damaging for their reputation.

The saving grace in all of this is they got Flagg. If not, their entire fanbase would have left the arena empty for the upcoming season.

Well... not evenly matched anymore. Slovenian players are contributing more than usual, and Germany is trying to match their grind-it-out style of play, instead of their own uptempo transition game. Which is why they lost Q1 by 11. Luka great, as usual. He's everywhere on O and on D. On pace for 40 today. :)

Does Luka have zero self control with b******* at the refs? Every. Single. Play. 4 minutes in and he has a T already and 2 fouls. :swear:

Lean Mean Defensive Machine that can just throw in 50 points whenever he decides. Been awhile since we had a likeable MegaStar.
