Summer League is horrible. Our coaching staff is incompetent. They're a freaking disgrace! Just think about this for a second; while we're watching this freaking garbage, imagine Madsen and Byron are the in the meeting talking 'basketball' with LaMarcus Aldridge. After watching Byron last season, and watching the crap in summer league, LaMarcus made the right decision for himself; what prospective FA would want to come here and play for such an incompetent coaching staff. No wonder we're so behind on analytics; if Madsen is the conduit between the analytics department and Byron, I'm even more concerned.

We'll run Byron's crap the first part of the season, fall 15-16 games under .500, and then he'll realize, 'oh, what I'm doing is not working, let me change it.' He's so freaking stubborn. Hiring him set our franchise back; Until he's gone, we'll be stuck in mediocrity and that's if we're lucky....

I think if Kobe sees it's a bad plan he'll give Byron that feedback real quick. He will know we have no time to jerk around losing winnable games early on.

Overreacting much? It is the summer league, majority of us hardly watched summer league until this season, let alone call for the coaches head for Summer League loss's. These games are more useless than preseason...

:). It's the WMC thread. That's the purpose of this thread. Should Byron be fired? Absolutely. Should it be based upon this Summer League? Of course not. There are other various factors involved in my thinking. He's here for this year. Hopefully, he won't be next summer...

Understood, I feel that he isn't the best coach to have, but if we get rid of him now it would show instability in the franchise. I say we tough it out one more season and then we can honestly justify getting rid of him if he is hindering our young guns.

Admittedly, I overreacted in my post. I think you're taking a very reasonable approach, though. It's one that I agree with...:)

Are we bringing Pau back? Are we trading Randle, Clarkson, or Russell for Demarcus Cousins?

If not, then somebody please explain to me why we're runnning the Princeton offense. The only NBA team that ever ran it successfully had 2 elite passing big men in Webber and Divac. Each could shoot, pass, and post-up.

The offense made little sense a few years ago when Pau & Nash (pre-injury) were here. It makes no sense at all now.

Either bring in the right personnel for the offense, or scrap it entirely.

I don't want to be a Byron hater but I admit I'm fearful that were not going use our players properly.

I think most people assume Madsen is working on his orders... I think Madsen has just been incompetent.

The coaching is absolutely atrocious. I don't care who's running the team; it's laughably bad. This is why I was screaming for a better assistant coach. However, ever since Byron was at NJ, the rumors were that he was playing golf while Lawrence Frank ran the offense and eventually took Byron's job. I think Byron's a little insecure about somebody knowing more than him coming alongside and being an aide or at least help him in the areas he's weak in...

So we are running Mad Dog's offense that he's been secretly waiting to bust out in SL?

This is a Byron Scott offense we are seeing.

We're not calling for his head because of 3 SL games. It's an accumulation of frustration dating back to last season. Lot of questionable decisions by Byron last year. Our offense is a big "WTF?" and it's very clear that Madsen is "coaching" according to the Byron system.

I agree though, we can't fire Byron for the sake of saving face. We've had 4 coaches in 5 years, we can't make that 5 coaches in 6 years.

I've said it since the beginning. Byron is a "stop-gap" coach....he's a great filler and someone to start a rebuild. He's a motivator and hopefully coaches sound defense. He can help elevate rookies in a way that guys like Phil can't. He's not a Championship coach. He's not an X's and O's guy. He's not a guy that's going to make small tweaks in 7-game series to win series. He's an average coach at best, he got the job because he's a legacy and because we're not good enough to need a Championship coach.

So the crux of this is that Byron will be threatened by having anyone that knows anything joining the staff. Thus we will continue to be a rudderless ship. I am afraid you are right. I wanted some assistant coaches to support Byron, but if he signs off on them what is the point they will just be shills. I think no matter how much innovation and analytics we had, Byron listens to what Byron listens to. Maybe if we disguised some stats or plays by putting them in an old leather bound book and put some dust and cobwebs on it Byron would pay attention to it.

Truthfully I don't normally watch summer-league as we have had camp invites and scrubs in the past. However I agree with Chillibongo and others, this is the same product Byron has served us. He is not coaching the summer league but the team is echoing the tight confused hesitant play that we showed 60 or so games into the season. Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result (or some mish mash of this quote). Byron's plays are not working and by this definition he is insane. Watching this team play and looking for a change or improvement is fruitless, I watched as many games as possible last year. The offense is broke, the zone is a ponderous concession to a lack of defensive flair. It is clear that expecting a change is insanity. It is clear that Byron is trying to drive us insane, to hide his insanity.

While I talk in jest, I just don't have faith in Scott and it will cost us freeagents, our brand, close games (like it did last year). My WMC is I wanted start this season positive and Scott has been the only rock in the lawnmower to date, and he is a big gritty one.

This. Jordan Clarkson has been seen several times up in the stands talking X's & O's with Scott in between quarters and there is absolutely NO reason for him to be doing that if Maddog is doing his job properly. I've seen plays out of huddles that were ???? some of that's players of course but I got a feeling if MM is doing a decent job Jordan is not out consulting with Scott when he should be out on the floor consulting with Madsen.

I'm a huge Mitch fan, but I will say that's on Mitch. As GM he has to recognize Byron's strength is in leadership and establishing team culture. Byron's weakness is obviously Xs & Os. Mitch needs to make him hire an accomplished assistant like Tex was to Phil.

All we need is a bunch of all stars to make the offense look somewhat okay.

I'm starting to think most of Byron's success had to do with him turning Kidd, Paul, and Irving loose to run the offense vs trying to coach.

He played with Magic who could have been the coach, so this is probably what he's used to.

He'll now have to convince me otherwise.
