one catch is that mlb minor leagues have more control than nba franchises have with g league affiliates. we only have three two-ways at any given time, and those are the only guys that can't just be signed by anyone, iirc.

baseball and basketball have very different systems.

i do hope that the new ownership means we spend more on top-tier development coaches, though. like how much did chip engelland end up being worth over time?

I think there's a real need to develop players in today's environment. You probably try to build your team with your starting 5 and the backups for those guys. Then you have a combo guard or swingman that can cover 1-2 or 2-3 and a backup big that can play 4-5. That's 12 spots taken up to compete. It leaves you with 2 roster slots for pure development and 3 two-way guys to develop as well.

I think you still go into the season with 14 players because it gives you the flexibility to promote a 2 way guy if they're playing well or trade for an extra guy to match salaries in trades.

To summarise, we should have a coaching staff and then hire another 2-3 development coaches just to work with the development players individually throughout the whole season. The team may not be able to practice alot, but those guys need the reps daily.

We should put together the basketball version of that. THAT was a farm system!

Saw we picked up three more guys maybe on 10 day contracts? Of the three I thought Ethan Taylor a 6’5” guard out of Air Force has a pretty nice jumper and deep range. Other one is a big and is Angela Reese’s brother, looks like a plodder though. I know they’re just 10 days so expectations are pretty low.
