Talk is cheap. Jeanie will not be running this team, whether she got some guarantee or not. You don't spend billions of dollars buying a team just to let the previous owner run the place.

    Hopefully the latter.

My expectation at least for the short term is that we'll start seeing changes outside of the roster. For example, a new medical and training staff, upgrade to training facility, Crypto Arena, etc. The Rambii will probably actually have to work and do things, or get the boot. Rob has to deliver year in and year out or he's going to be on the hot seat. In general, the hiring circle will expand to not just people affiliated to the Lakers.

As I wrote in the team development thread, I think there is ZERO chance Pelinka will be GM (or whatever position he technically holds) going into the coming season. When new ownership groups like this come in, they clean house and hire the people they want for the job. The Guggenheim group has no loyalty to Pelinka and no use for him either. Our team is now owned by serious people and they will get a legitimate GM, commensurate with the stature of the Lakers, who remain the crown jewel of the league. If Rob isn't packing up his office already, he is DELUSIONAL.

Baseball doesn't have a hard cap like the NBA now does with second apron. So I'm not really sure the spending on players is a good indication of what the new owners will do.
Does anyone follow the Dodgers closely enough to what that ownership groups done in terms of the other stuff - analytics, scouting, coaching, etc?

Just like the other thread my opinion is LOL he’s not going anywhere immediately. Fortunate or not for the opportunity he just pulled off starting the Luka Doncic era / post LeBron superstar magnet for other players deal of the year giving up only 1 pick, AD and Max plus kept the third piece of the current Lakers Big 3 in AR. He gets this year here of course and possibly more. So agree to disagree. Maybe they bring in a hot GM under Rob.

:Jeanie Srsly: Anyway Jeannie was not involved in basketball operations until it’s a major roster decision like Luka/AD

I watched the LakerNation vid with Trevor and Spiegel from the sister Dodger channel. He said that the group came in and totally revamped all of these departments- bringing them up to the highest level possible. They will do the same with our beloved Lakers.
    Finally!!!

Time will tell. Cuban was supposed to be be “running basketball decisions” as well after the ownership change and that turned out to be fake news.
I’m actually fine with Jeanie staying for a bit, as long as more basketball minds are brought in to the FO while the Rambii get phased out. Like I said on the other thread, I think ownership gives Rob this summer and next season to prove his worth.

Ah f***, this changes very little in the short term then.

I’m not sure it’s wise to let the guy with a not so great track record overall and a terrible track record around the margins run things if he’s not in the long term plans, especially when he’s working with our very last tradable assets/picks. I’d clean house and put in the best of the best right away, Luka is entering his prime if not already being in it.

This is GREAT news. I’m pumped.

I will confidently predict that Rob remains in his position. Let’s see what he does with a green light.

I would replace everyone in the FO immediately, but if Jeanie’s hanging around for a bit, I don’t think it’s going to be a clean sweep.
I think the young Buss boys deserve promotions based off of their stellar work with the scouting department, but nobody gives a Flying Ferdinand what I think is fair.

I'm have mixed feelings. I feel some type of way with the Lakers leaving the hands of the buss family, but at the same time its a long time coming with the Jimmy fiasco with deng and was it boozer and other such moves. We were calling for pelinkas head and to clear our the laker nepo FO for a while.

Coming in here and seeing the enthusiasm of others here gives me some comfort, especially with the talks of having unlimited resources and not having to worry about the luxury tax as much.

Regardless of whether she will still run the team or not, the Lakers are not hindered by a lack of funds anymore so it'll be different from that perspective. I have a tough time believing that they would pay $10 billion evaluation for a franchise and not expect to spend money to win and increase the value further.

What happened with Caruso and us not re-signing him, would probably not happen under Guggenheim. As far as the Dodger’s MO, I’m a recent convert and started to follow them after Shohei signed. From what I’ve gathered so far is that they spare no expense on the peripheral stuff that we Laker fans complained about Jeanie over the years and are big on developing their youth.

I will say that the days of Jeanie hiring only within her social circle are probably done.

I dig it. I came over from the Mavs just in time. lol. I would go Money whip Dennis Lindsey right now to run the front office. He built Utah, had a huge hand in the Mavs roster until after the Finals, then went to Detroit and turned them into a winner.

I wonder how much they’ll lean on Magic to get acquainted with who’s who and who’s top notch in all areas of the NBA world?
