i'm a little surprised he's already leaning towards declining. yes, he stands to make a lot more money--in theory. but how much more? and he's risking injury.

that said, the implication that he becomes a trade piece is maybe jumping the gun, as he actually loses trade value for the same reasons--he can opt out after next year.

i do think him declining the extension will help with the optics if we do move him, though. which makes me a little nervous we're thinking about it.

eh, the only part of the report that couldn't be dismissed as the same speculation i had a few days ago (i.e., the application of logic) is the last part--that he's "far from untouchable".

even if someone actually heard that from someone involved with the organization (doubtful), i'm not sure it qualifies as news. for the right player or players, i'm not sure reaves has ever been "untouchable". there are maybe a handful of guys who are, and we just somehow traded for one, anyway.

Jonathan Isaac was shaping up to be a transformative defensive player before all his injuries, guy was able to defend 1-5. He had 4 stocks per game in that last season before the injuries. His per 36 numbers are outstanding 15/8 with 2.5 steals and 4 blocks a game. When healthy he may be the best defender in the NBA and no-one provides his combination of perimeter defence and rim protection. His lateral quickness is OUTSTANDING at almost 7ft and his timing on blocks is the best in the league.

He will go down as an interesting what if, but he just can't stay healthy - just stay away. I'd take him at the minimum or TPMLE though, just for the off chance he gets healthy for a playoff run one year.

EDIT: The only player that has as much defensive potential is Wemby, thats how good Isaac is defensively when healthy.
