If we can't use him during the playoffs than might as well take a chance on someone else. No use on keeping someone that is useless for us during the playoffs.

Look he was awful but to not play him at all when Gobert is pwning us is just foolish. He could at least box out Gobert like wtf. We grab 5-6 boards that were offensive ones for them, it’s now a different game. At least use Jaxon for fouls to hack a Gobert. Can’t belive we didn’t try that.

No I agree with you. For most of the season he was our center, then suddenly near the playoffs and during JJ showed his inexperienced and panic and changed the way we played. I just don't trust JJ moving forward with knowing how to use Hayes. The last two games, he showed everyone that he didn't trust our guys.

i think he was perfectly usable in the regular season. he's just a backup. jj's future plans clearly involve not using more than one center in the playoffs, which would mean hayes would be a 15mpg regular season player who only played in case of emergency in the playoffs. i see no problem with that.

the front office has to give jj a good enough center that he can't follow is dantonian instincts to never play one at all. the rescinded williams trade might have done that. a trade for a more expensive center should do the trick.

I don’t blame JJ for not trusting the majority of our bench, but to me, it’s like he was trolling Rob by not playing ANY bigs when we were getting destroyed on the glass. It still makes zero sense to me.

We, and by we I mean Rob, should have taken away more from this clip than we (he) did

i think he chose offense over defense. the next question might be then why not try knecht, but imo, knecht was just too clueless on both ends to put him in for meaningful minutes.

still would have liked to see vando and goodwin get some second half burn in game 4, though.

    Yeah, I’ve already moved on.
Looking forward to a team built around Luka this time.

Remember when people here wanted to pay 10/15mil? Lol

I'm fine with him as a backup

He went from performing like a MLE type player, to performing like a guy who'll be out of the league next season.

At one point I would have given him 7-8m per to not lose him - which is like 4% of the First Apron salary. That's not much these days. Supermax contracts are going to be 60m next season. The MLE is going to be 14.1m - salaries are just going up.

Not me- I think he should be gone. Judging by how little JJ played him against Minny, I think he feels the same way.

yeah, i said i'd go as high as tpmle before the late season swoon. he's back in vet min territory now. though i'm still not opposed to keeping him. i think he had good enough chemistry with luka to help us win games against charlotte in february.

I think he can be valuable in the regular season as the backup. Giving us solid 15-20 minutes and an occasional start if injuries.
Then not play in the playoffs where our backup C is some forward for the small ball JJ likes.
I also think he can play better against a different opponent. We have a system that fits him, so it's a nice thing to have a guy that fits from the bench.
Brings some continuity as well as I expect larger movements in other areas and we are already adding at least a C

I think Capela/Hayes is solid if we manage to get a big improvement on Gabe/Vando's roles

i'd still like to have a big banger as an option, but jemison on a two-way is fine there as well.

Agreed, if your coach has no confidence in a player why would you keep him. Hard to get a bigger no confidence vote than that.

i mean, jj claimed to love gabe but wouldn't put him in for a full half, either.

If I’m Jaxson I’m moving on. If JJ wouldn’t play him as a starter, there’s no way he’ll touch the floor as a backup. Wish the kid well. For his sake I hope he gets his arse in the weight room to prepare for his next team.

i don't get it--jj played him as a starter and backup all year until the playoffs. you'd walk rather than take a salary to play spot minutes for the lakers? pretty sure if we offer, he'll happily come back. our offer is the question right now...
