Rob doesn't really value bigs..his track record shows that. Most of the contenders in either conference, all have decent to high end bigs. We have none, I'd take Looney and the rook, over what we have. Sure we'll address the situation in the offseason, and I'm pretty sure that we are going to go, for the cheapest option available too. We don't even draft bigmen prospects, we only seem to be interested in fringe players, that might be usable for small roles. Zion would absolutely be a Rob fantasy player IMO. Another tweeter that can play small ball, while still being able to bang on the boards. Shrug..this concept might have panned out, with the Lebron from 5 years ago.
I agree that Rob doesn't value the spot at all and JJ so far only values a particular type. BUT I think there's any overriding aspect this summer and that's Luka. I think Rob will go get Luka whoever he wants or whatever type of center he wants. He's still in the we need to impress him so he'll stay here until retirement phase of the relationship.
Lowe talked about it on his pod today: the Luka attacking Gobert on switches is not working. Terrible results on a points per possession basis. We need to be attacking other matchups (get Conley, NAW or Donte on Luka, they're just too small for him) and then force Gobert to help off of a shooter.
That’s my point and I agree. He leaned into it super hard these first two games for about 85% of the game. Just worry that our guys will wear down at some point. It takes A LOT of energy to play that way for an entire game, much less 4 series.
Not in the playoffs. I don't care what analytics, numbers and experts say. Antoni and GSW ruined basketball.
People saw a few highlights and really thought Gobert can't play defense... He's still an elite defender whether others like to admit it or not.
i think if it's tied and you have the last shot, you can try to exploit the gobert matchup on the perimeter, but for large chunks of the game it seems like wasted effort. don't let the rest of the defense or him rest for a second. the clips beat utah with rudy by making him have to go paint to corner and back repeatedly, and he couldn't keep up. we could do that, too. unfortunately, that requires role players, you know, making open threes... anyway, you have to make gobert move and you have to make randle think and choose off the ball. the team that eventually beats minny will do both mercilessly, imo.
Hopefully he can impart that onto the players not named Bron and Luka (they don't need it) tonight. Love that outlook from coach. Pure basketball sicko mode.
Played Luka, AR, DFS, Rui and Lebron the ENTIRE SECOND HALF. Even Thibs isn’t that diabolical with running his players in the ground.
Internet always wins.Already talk begins bring back pimple .If he had Luka he would be better than Phil and Pop combined
It’s not JJ’s fault Rob didn’t provide him with either a starting or backup level talent at C. I HATE small ball. This is why I’ve been clamoring for at least a serviceable center option for two years. We were absolutely destroyed on the boards AND expected our much smaller guys to stop all the length that the Wolves threw out there. We still have a bright future with Luka, but Rob not signing even a mid, to lower level big this past summer really was a big factor in us losing.
That gabe signing plus practice vid vando where he looked like a competent corner 3 shooter are both garbabe...i knew gabe was banking of that playoff he had with mia
The learning curve is steep and frustrating at times. Overall very solid, but after that game, fans are left with questions.
Dafuq can't JJ play Vando, Knecht, Vincent or Hayes even a few minutes in the 2nd half..?? Craziest Coaching decision I've ever seen... The outcome was predictable.
Our season was riding on that game, JJ panicked and pulled "a Thibs". Doesn't help that our roster f***ing sucks in the playoffs.
Worst mistake a coach ever made . Even the dumbest sports fan you would pick in a bar or in a barbershop wouldn't make that one
I'm a big fan of JJ but this was a bad call. No need to do it. Especially with Luka coming from a stomach bug, Bron being 40 and our offense only ran by then with AR struggling. We need short powerful spurts from each of them. He could have extended the minutes of that lineup, but no reason not to give a few minutes in the 24 of the 2nd half to Gabe or Vando at the very least. Smart guys like JJ are overthinkers and sometimes it plays against them, trying to outsmart themselves. It's definitely a learning lesson from him, but one that can be highly costly for us. Unfortunate
