Luka Doncic Discussion: Playoff Luka Engaged

I got my Luka jersey. Had to five years for them to restock lol.

 

When are we going to get the Denver Luka again? He's been underwhelming for his high standards recently

 

is he injured? playing through something? he looked completely disengaged tonight

 

He's often playing hurt/through something , this is the pb , left elbow it is now .

He can't play as non very high usage player too

 

Yeah the elbow injury must be bothering him a lot. It's his off arm but he's a physical player and it limits his ability to put defenders on his hip and keep them there.

Probably the worst I’ve seen him play.

 

That kid is talented as hell, it wasn't his best effort. He'll bounce back, personally, I'd like to see JJ run some different sets with Luka a bit more. Run some mid post action, a little more Luka/Lebron P&R.

Don't get me wrong, Luka can get it cooking without that, clear it out and just give him the ball. However I would like to see a taste of more structure at this point.

I have zero doubts though, that JJ has plenty of stuff lined up for the playoffs. It's just that sometimes it looks like, everyone else is running sets, and Luka is still kinda ab libing as we go.

But hell...when he's knocking down those 3's, lol it doesn't seem to be a problem. Now

 

His problem as a Lakers and since coming back from the hamstring isn't knocking down 3s but struggling with the 2 points shot :

Restricted era : 78.3%

In the paint : 50.8%

Mid-range : 42.9%

As a Lakers , these % dropped to 64 , 38.8 and 35.8

Last season these % were 75.9 , 54.7 and 43.8 too so there definetely is something wrong

 

Run more structured action, in order to get more quality looks in the midrange. Like I said, he's pretty much free lancing every night, since he's been here. It's difficult to compare what he was doing in Dallas anyway, that team was built around him. He's fitting in on a team, that was built around Lebron and AD right now. Adjustments have to be made as you go along.

 

Better heal up by playoffs or we won’t make it out of the first round.

 

little part of me wondered if jj knew gs is a likely first round opponent and played it close to the vest on offense? maybe that's wishful thinking, and tbh, if luka just plays normal, we win this game.

 

JJ is about to outsmart himself...

 

My main issue with Luka last night was settling for too many jump shots when he has a big guy switched on him. Looks like he’s still settling too much at times and he’s taken a lot of contested jumpers. It’s not rocket science more contested shots = lesser efficiency.
