They truly just took a wrecking ball to their franchise.

easily one of the craziest moves I can think of in sports.

Wow... So much angst in Dallas. Maybe Jerry Jones should get involved.

i truly feel bad for mavs fans and can relate to them because i was a lifelong oakland A's fan who watched the team trade away every young talent that came through the system for years

luka was the face of their franchise and it was supposed to stay that way for a long time. i'm not sure if this really is all part of a plan to move the team (straight out of the A's playbook,) but at the end of the day, they needed luka a lot more than the lakers did

Seems like Luka has gotten a whole bunch of support. Man, if we can see the hurt on his eyes (before the first game) I'm sure dirk, lebron they all did.

Im glad to have such a loyal star on our team, give us that love and you'll never lose it!

It's funny that the Stanley Johnson thread getting bumped brought up a lot of old memories of those darker years when Kobe was hurt. I remember @therealdeal was a fan of Stanley and we were discussing prospects like Mudiay and Heronja before hitting the lottery and getting excited about Jahlil Okafor lol

We ended up drafting D'Angelo that year, then Ingram a year later, and finally Lonzo in 2017. We got the 2nd pick three consecutive years. They were all good players, but it was obvious from early on that none of them were going to become a franchise level player. Ironically, our scouting was good enough to make us relatively competitive, and we missed out on the 2018 draft which had Luka, a generational talent. The Lebron signing eased the pain, but we were all bummed that we missed out on the draft class that really mattered.

I think that's part of the reason why getting Luka makes me happy. We've come full circle trading Ingram and Lonzo for the ultimate prize in Luka. It makes me happy that those years weren't wasted.

A huge part of this Luka trade is even though it is unlikely, this gives the Lakers arguably the biggest asset in the league outside of Wemby.

They have a 25 year old player who is a guaranteed 1st team All-NBA player.

The Lakers can pretty much get anyone they want in the league outside of Jokic, Giannis, and Wemby.

It opens up the Lakers options immensely. I hope it doesn't come down to ever having to trade Luka but the return the Lakers could get would be massive.
