It's been a minute since I logged in here. Totally understand the hesitations based on roster construction but my god, this is crazy and no way you can say no to trading for Luka, giving up as little as we did. Love AD and think he has been criminally underrated his whole career, and hope the fit in Dallas is good for him, but we were going nowhere with no thought to the future. Now we've got a superstar for the next decade as long as we build around him and keep him happy. Sure that probably means sacrificing this year, but was this really a very promising year? JJ should be stoked and I think he and Luka will work together really well. Very excited about the Lakers future for the first time in a while.

DFS is a better shooter than Vando, while still providing high level defence. I’m actually disappointed we let Christie go because he is a great fit next to Luka, DFS and Bron with only a defensive center giving good balance.

Reaves just doesn’t make much sense alongside Luka and Bron. They’re both ball dominant and Reaves is better playing alongside 1 of them rather than both. Truth be told, this trade maybe makes him a bit redundant and much more likely to be traded.

We now need a good POA defender and a good defensive center. Lonzo if he got bought out would be terrific with his IQ. As for a center, Kessler, Turner, Capela, Vucevuc, Nurkic and Valancinuas in that order.

Trade Bron for Draymond and Wiggins and call it a day.

This means, AR for a center, right?
Can one be sad and happy at the same time?

I don’t think they’ll move Reaves for a center if they wouldn’t move him for Murray or Fox. I think they’ll try to use Rui and whoever else, and if Reaves is moved it’ll be the offseason to try to land the best player possible rather than just positional need. At least that’s what I’d think, they’ve held onto Reaves this long, his contract is great, he’s playing the best he ever has.

this is my thinking too, it would be a mistake to force an AR trade to get a center. I mean if we can get a Myles Turner or a Bam you do it, but that is unlikely before the deadline. Kessler is a fine defensive player but he's just not that guy.

Slam dunk, home run trade. We were NOT winning the title this season. Next year LeBron is 41 and could be done at any time.

He just landed, at worst... The 3rd best player in the NBA? I absolutely love AD and what he brings, but I don't think you can pass this up. This totally resets our future.

Been thinking about this more and more, have watched 3 different pods on it now. Someone made a point on Jovan’s that this can help LeBron in the sense that that he genuinely has to do less on the ball now, for the first time maybe ever as a Laker. Luka is that guy, he can run an entire offense, he’s a LeBron type, a Kobe type, he scored 73 in a game last year, he’s beaten teams pretty much by himself in playoff series. I don’t know what happens this year, but having a Luka means you can compete for a title in any season he’s healthy and has a decent team around him, if you have a guy like this you always have a shot in any game and any series. This was shocking at first, and yeah this team has major holes now, but long term, again, if he’s healthy and in relatively good shape, it’s a huge win.

IMO yes, at worst 3rd. Maybe some could argue 4th or 5th, but that’s pushing it, anything beyond that is just bias. Jokic, Giannis, Luka, Shai, Tatum.

No better guy to learn about conditioning from than LeBron. He should be highly motivated to prove the Mavs wrong.

I hope we'll find out more about the why from Dallas' perspective. There must have been more than just "we don't like his attiture / he's lazy".

Either way, I hope this motivates Luka big way, because if he's truly motivated, he's definitely one of the top 3 players in this league, maybe the best.
