Why? Cam Thomas plays zero defense. He’s an iso scorer and not at all what this team needs. DFS does not match the defensive reputation and the guy constantly has minor injuries. Sharpe, count me in.

I’d prefer something along the lines of DLo/JHS/Lewis/Hayes + 2 1sts (with protections) and a couple 2nds for Cam Johnson and Sharpe.

I was opposed to trading 1sts, but someone like Cam could be flipped for one or two 1sts down the road if it doesn’t work out here.

Yeah, I have a feeling it's going to be something along those lines. We have to take back 4.5 million less in trade though to leave some cushion under the apron, with Johnson's counting for 27 million due to incentives. It seems the least complicated way to do that is to include Vincent in the deal. The ability to unload Vincent, and create a roster spot, gives us a little bit more incentive to part with the two firsts.

Not interested in giving up all of our PGs in this deal. I’m actually a fan of DSJ or Fultz at the minimum, but I’m not depending on those guys. The trade I proposed works math wise in the trade machine, though it may not account for the apron. I assume there’s a way to make it work without Gabe and I don’t see why they would want him anyway.

I mean yeah, there is a way. But it would take some cap gymnastics. Just because Gabe is playing well doesn't mean we must hold on to him now. Reaves takes up 34-36 minutes at PG, so we are just trying to fill the remaining 12-14. Shouldn't be a deal breaker, if push comes to shove. That would be ridiculous.

Johnson isn’t exactly a defensive stalwart himself. This team desperately needs bench scoring and Thomas fits that bill to a tee.DFS can fill the same role PJ Washington did for Dallas as a tested veteran who hit timely shots

Dlo/Gabe/Hayes/ two firsts for Johnson/Sharpe opens up 5.67 million under the apron. Heck, we still would have JHS/Wood, etc. to use in a trade for a point guard, if need be. Again, backup point guard is not that hard of a spot to fill, and Vincent doesn't set a high bar anyway, might even be able to get an upgrade.

I can guarantee we aren’t given up TWO first for the 28 year old Cam Thomas and any other Net player you want to throw in there.
He in no way fits the rebuild timeline and there’s even a slimmer chance that we would get back a first for him in two years when he’s 30.

    Lol.Is Chicago in tanking mode?
Atlanta won 4 quarter 50-25 and were down -17 with 6 minutes left in game

Hopefully, we only have to give up a first.

Yeah, it would have to be an awfully good package, even to give up a single first- or, it done in conjunction with a separate deal for me to feel great about it.
I just don’t think we become a contender, even if we get Cam, DFS, another okay player AND a bruising center. Could we make it out of the first round? Sure. Could we go further? Probably not.
I would just try and get that big now to keep AD’s minutes against the bruisers down. This move keeps our most valuable asset happy AND possibly reduces the chances of the Brow suffering more injuries.

That's a brutal way to lose. That's now 5 straight for them.

Saturday they're either coming out like a bat out of hell or we get to deliver this death blow
    [IMG]

With Luka out, we have the chance to make up ground there. Only 2 back from their 4th seed. Suns and Wolves don't look as good as expected. GS needs a trade. Memphis and Houston don't concern me. Denver regardless of seed will have our number and OKC, I think they beat us if healthy. But we've yet to really see that iteration of them yet. West is really good, but no one is a championship favorite. It's a bunch of teams grouped together and it's just begging for someone to make the right trades to distance themselves from the cluster.

We're not beating Boston no matter who we get. BUT that's only 3 teams clearly better than who we could be. Just give Bron and AD a f***ing shot. You never know how things can break right.

ooh...don't know about that foul. need to see a replay, but that's a completely unnatural shot attempt that should maybe be called an offensive foul. i know if it happened to us, i'd be pissed.

re: jsm's claims of us being *this close*...not sure i'm as bullish, nor am i sure that the tweaks it would take to even separate us from the 5-11 group are really available to us before february. i agree that the west continues to be consistently strong without any real juggernaut (the three teams at the top all basically win with energy, which doesn't bode well for the playoffs, when everyone plays that way). but we still face the issue that we need lebron and AD to play like superstars all the time to beat good teams, and that's not a given anymore. it was once was, imo, but not now.

That's fair. I think there's a path to 4th. You give Bron and AD a chance to not have treat every game from February on like a playoff game, let them avoid the play in and get at least one home court series and i like their odds to have a punchers chance in the playoffs.

To your point about the energy of the teams at the top, they're also very young (OKC, HOU, MEM)... it's why they have that energy. They have the legs to go full tilt for 82 and then not be gassed in April/May and for the most part, I like how we match up against them and use our experience against them. There's no experience like experience.

Then there's injuries. Playoffs series have been decided lately by a star or two dropping. Boston has injury prone players. That dirty leprechaun is going to run out of luck sooner or later. On the flip side, that could also derail us.

I just think this team is worth maximizing their chance. This is probably the last one before this iteration comes to an end and there's no guarantee next year will look this open. Not suggesting doing something foolish like trading two picks for LaVine. I think we can get the type of guys we need to balance the team with expirings, one protected first and some seconds. If you have a shot, you take it cause I have no reason to believe this team post Bron will be capable of doing anything but count ping pong balls.

I like Cam, but we’re talking about giving up 2 1sts for a nice to have, not a need. I’m not interested in depleting all depth at another position for that. I’m not saying Gabe is a dealbreaker. I’m saying having no depth at the PG position is the dealbreaker for me.

sure, but where we've been going back and forth for a while is what that looks like. you draw a line at picks for lavine (i realize that's way, way over the line), but i've just had a really hard time coming up with the thing we can do. as i've said, if we could have moved a bunch of picks and not reaves for dejounte murray, this is the kind of thing i would definitely consider. but is anything like that even available?

cam johnson's a better fit and player than rui, but enough better to justify the cost? and it would still leave us eerily similar in terms of roster holes, imo (rui is just kind of poor man's cam johnson right now).

i'm hoping and anticipating we make moves, but once again, i don't think a lack of moves will indicate that we didn't care or try or whatever.

portland's already dropped one first off the asking price for grant. my hope is other parts of the market cool similarly. the center market suddenly seems pretty crowded, so i'm hopeful we can at least get something done there.

I think there's multiple ways. We usually go the route of one guy vs multiple, which is think is a mistake. Top heavy, especially in this CBA is challenging. Look at the Suns. Stein had multiple paragraphs yesterday on why they can't even trade Nurk for Vuc because of the cap gymnastics and "apron world." I think the 5-8 has to improve. Not necessarily your 5th starter but your 5th best player - eighth best player. Cam right now is our 8th best player. He needs to be our 11th best player. Murray situation still pisses me off. 1) at the ask. 2) at the perfect fit. 3) he'd be an option again right now if it was anyone but NO.

I like him. JJ really likes him, I think. Better volume shooter, more consistent and i think a little bit better defensively than Rui. I wouldn't give up the current price for him though. I would be intrigued by the concept of having Rui backing him up. It'd be the spider man meme and wouldn't change anything that you're running system wise.

I disagree. The costs are out there. The assets are on the table. We have plenty of expirings and draft picks to move around. If Rob doesn't make a single move this season, he should be fired, PERIOD. that's inexcusable.

It is reassuring the prices are already dropping before the new calender year. We need two deals at least. Maybe even 3 if they're one player deals coming back. Best case you get two of something, then fill one of the other needs and hit the FA market for best scraps (Fultz). Whether that's two bigs and one wing (Jonas, Sharpe, DFS) or two wings and one big (Brown, DFS, Sharpe)...or rotate any of the names from any of the tanking teams linked to us in the formula . I think that's the right course that gives us the best crack at it.

We need to do them progressively though and not wait until February to kick things off. That'll also infuse some energy in the meanwhile too. Bron and AD will finally get the pat on the back that they've done enough to warrant the team buying in and believing in them (which is pathetic).

Had AD been out weeks with the foot/ankle twist. The price of the big man we're looking for would've just gone up. Costs are low enough right now that an extra second rounder should not be getting in the way of business. JJ doesn't see Koloko as a viable option to play double digit minutes no matter what he's doing on the floor. It's criminal there's not a center on this bench who can suit up and be counted on for 15+ minutes.

don't know how one can make that definitive statement right now. we've seen one move so far. not sure what the market's going to be. guys like DFS really don't do much for me. dlo for DFS is probably a downgrade, even with dlo having a career-worst year. why do things like this?

problem is early moves basically can't use any valuable asset, as you run the risk of say, moving a first that takes you out of the fox bidding if and when he demands out of sac. all to maybe leapfrog the clips in the standings?

we don't know what the costs are, and it's more than picks. if we can get a sharpe or richards using jhs/wood and 2 2nds or whatever, we should do that yesterday. that we haven't tells me it's not possible right now.

people forget that everyone has many things on the table, and each move takes other things off the table. detroit will rent their cap space, but they only have so much to rent. the second we use dlo's expiring, we're out of pretty much all big fish pursuits. do you use it on vucevic in early january?
