    D'Angelo Russell/Lou Williams
    Jordan Clarkson/J. Brown
    Kobe Bryant/Nick Young/A. Brown
    Julius Randle/Bass/Kelly/Nance
    Hibbert/Black/Sacre

Is there anybody missing here? There's some redundancy there with Lou and Nick. Also, Nance and Kelly. I'm thinking if you ship out Kelly it's because you want to develop Nance. Lou makes Nick expendable. We could probably do use a more defensive minded wing at the backup SF position. There's just not much available out there right now in the FA market. The best bet would be to target those SF through trades and find the best fit to round out this roster as best as possible.

Boy, I sure hope he replaces Sacre. I forgot about him. Thanks.

If Dirk wanted to be traded, Cuban would definitely do that for him. Dirk would never request that though. He'd probably retire before going elsewhere.

Yeah I agree but Cuban probably should offer anyway just in case. I mean this is a horrible nightmare for Dirk. No ring AND no money. Ouch.

That's not right. Clarkson and Black have a cap hold for 1.2 million. We can sign them last and go over the cap. That opens 8-9 million more. We will be fine.

Clarkson's cap hold next offseason is likely to be $3.27M. If a 2nd round pick starts 41 games or plays 2,000+ minutes the year before, he qualifies for the Starter's Provision, which means that his qualifying offer will be equivalent to the QO of the 21st pick in the draft class whose rookie contracts have just expired, which in this case is Jared Sullinger's in 2012.

It's convoluted as hell, but since he's likely a starter, his cap hold will be $3.27M next offseason.

As a 2nd year player though would we still have Full Bird Rights? I thought that was reserved for 3 years with a single team?

No, but the Arenas rule prevents him from getting more than the MLE for the first two years, and he's a Restricted Free Agent. You're correct that full Bird Rights are after 3 years. This is the one situation where a team can "poison pill" a contract, similar to what the Rockets did with Lin & Asik. Their salaries were something like $5M the first year, $5M the second year, and then $15M the third year, although the cap hit was spread evenly throughout the three seasons. It's the only scenario that I'm aware of where a team isn't bound to the 4.5% or 7.5% restrictions on raises.

Either way, at the end of the day Clarkson is pretty cost controlled for the next several years. We're good.

Gotcha. Thanks for making it easy to understand. This stuff gets wild sometimes. :D

Good to know. It was definitely in the back of my mind a bit when trying to build future scenarios with the team. I've got a feeling Jordan will be here a while if he keeps working the way he's worked thus far in his short career. I love his quick learning ability.

OK. That makes a bit more sense. So we would have room with the Clarkson and Black cap holds only being about 5 million total. Honestly, it probably doesn't matter. Durant isn't coming here and the only other dude in next year's class worth maxing out is Conely, who plays the same position as our new (fingers crossed) franchise player. I honestly have a feeling our team will look A LOT like this season's squad. Our improvement from this coming season to next will be based off Russell, Randle, Clarkson, Black, and Upshaw's improvements. Which is fine. I really believe in the first 3. This rebuild is going to be almost exclusively through te draft. Plain and simple.

I mean that's how it usually goes. I could see us landing a pretty decent FA next season though. Batum and Jeff Green will be available. Pau Gasol and Dirk Nowtizki will be available if we can slide Randle up to SF. I mean there's guys out there we can add, you know? I think we'll do it this time because the young guys will develop well this season. Especially if we make a playoff push? I think we can lure a FA here.

I do agree that we have to find a way to deal Sacre and Kelly. If we can get some late picks, that would be cool. In any case, just unload those contracts. Swag I am OK with. Need some SFs anyway.
