Honestly he's done well given the circumstances. Don't agree with some decisions, esp playing gabe vincent as much as he has. But then again...he's searching for answers and the roster has not played hard a lot of the nights...which we've now seen with 3 different coaches, so it's not the coach at this point. AD/Bron have to set the tone...no coach is going to change their effort at this point
we're spoiled with having had an insanely intense Kobe for 20 years. Hard to have anything or anyone measure up tbh.
the fact that we're consistently one of the worst transition d teams is squarely on the two stars, imo. they just don't run the floor hard all the time. i'm 100% certain the coaches aren't telling them that it's ok if we just play 3 or 4 on 5 for a few seconds of each possession.
This is one of the reasons that I believe the AD/LeBron era has run its course. AD does still fall a lot on offense, but the rest of the times, he has no excuse to not get back. LeBron is 40, more like 400 in basketball mileage on his body and his foot is bothering him, so yeah, I understand why the old dude can’t get back. Teams know this and can easily score on us in transition. I hate this saying, but “it is what it is.”
Interesting topic.. https://www.nba.com/stats/teams/transition?TypeGrouping=defensive On the other hand.. https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/nba-teams-transition-points-this-season
don't understand--first link supports the argument that we're a bad transition defense team (basically sharing space with a who's who of bottom dwellers), and the second link seems to be a tally of total points scored this season?
I like JJ so far. I think he’s seeing what we need to do pretty clearly and he’s been good about communicating it.
He has a bunch of not very good or old players scrambling on defense. I thought the Lakers played some excellent defense last night in the 4th. Annoyed that he went away from koloko earlier in the year for Traore but he's corrected. Just wish Dalton had a bit of a longer leash - he's a rookie and needs to work thru the growing pains. That being said JJ ain't an issue for this team like Ham was.
Suck it IST queen. He's got them playing ELITE defense. Just sucks the team hasn't found the balance yet. Team's focus has only been able to stay one either the offense or defense so far.
That first place Defensive Rating just makes my heart smile. It’s something that the entire team can be proud of- let’s hope they can keep up the intensity.
Can we stop comparing JJ and pimple.Reddick is 1000 times better end of discussion. Btw,Ham was on 4 games losing streak at that time after Ist cup finals and lost like 9 of 11
Wish JJ called a TO after the Kings got 5 easy and quick points after the Lakers got to 10. Other then that he seems to be cooking as long as he has his guys somewhat healthy. Certainly has gotten Sabonis out of AD's head: the drop coverage on the PnR is working as long as the other Lakers players rotate. Now if he can fix AD's clutch FT shooting
Yeah, down the stretch, I will never understand why we seem to always fall back to the “give it to LeBron and let him create” offense when an actual set play drawn up by JJ is nine times out of ten more effective.
I seriously doubt the play call is give it to LeBron and let him pound the ball for 18 seconds but it is what Bron has always done and no coach is going to change that. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
Well, I assume that JJ does have LeBron’s respect because of their show together and that he would listen to him.
It's something I've always been frustrated with, but teams want to minimize the chance of a turnover in those situations. You want to score to put the game away, but not at the expense of giving the other team an extra possession via turnover. I think that's the logic anyway.
