Sucks. He's salary filler at this point. The verbiage in LA's news is contradicting. someone who hasn't played since February and isn't progressing as quickly as anticipated has had setbacks. Period. Otherwise they'd be on the court by now.
Zombie Vando is almost officially here - sucks balls as that Boston game was the best I've ever seen him play. Scottie Pippen like player before he got hurt last year. Dorian Finney Smith come on down the Lakers need (or if Bruce Brown is alive and his knee is well: he'll do)
Damn..Two weeks ago, he was just experiencing " minor discomfort ". With no new setbacks, interesting situation developing here.
Listen, I drive the team Cam bus but here's the problem... based on his career it's when, not if, will he get hurt. Hell, he's already two injuries in on this season. At some point one of those injuries prevent him from returning as the impact starting caliber defender he is right now. If there's a crystal ball that guarantees he'll give another healthy 55+ games, lock it in and focus the trade chips elsewhere. I just don't think that's realistic. I at least want a pivot option and you can never have enough + defensive wings especially if you're not giving up anything. I don't think DFS will cost a first at the deadline. Maybe next month when teams are still asking for the moon, but the losing needs to start soon if teams want to lock a top 5 pick and there's a lot of s***ty and/or severely injured teams this year so the selling needs to happen sooner than later. I like the idea of trying to orchestrate a 3 team deal involving the Nets and Wiz. Nets get: Gabe, Wood Wizards get: Vando, JHS Lakers get: DFS, Valanciunas We address both positions of need, clear two roster spots and don't lose any available talent. Asset wise, I'd be willing to do a first swap or top 20 protected first + 3 second round picks and $3 million cash. They can fight over who gets what.
Let’s just put Vando on the shelf until next season (sigh). By the time he ramps up and JJ figures out how to play him, the season will be over anyway.
love vando, but i have to start thinking about whether he's got trade value to bad teams right now. i know the answer seems like "definitely not", but he's making sub-mle money for three years after this. if you're an optimistic tanking team, you could snag him, sit him the full year and rehab with a competent medical staff (i.e., not the lakers staff), and have the guy we were expecting when we signed him to that deal, which is one of the league's best wing defenders/energy/hustle guys. it's also for that reason that i wouldn't be interested in attaching a bunch of stuff to get off him. and for those reasons, i'll actually be surprised if he's moved--it's tough to navigate that negotiation, when the buying team is going to say "hey, he may never play again; we're eating salary".
Yeah, pretty good analysis. If I'm a tanking team he definitely has worth, you can rehab for as long as you want because you're planning to suck for a couple years and maybe have a very special player down the line when your team needs it. It also allows you to have space to play a few other young kids you might want to develop. I think he makes sense for teams like the Nets, Jazz or Washington that are not expecting to compete in the next couple years. But yeah, even if I wanted him, I would still try to low ball his value and try to get other assets. It's a tough one for Rob, it would do wonders if he shows he's not dead
yeah, you definitely don't pay to get off him at this stage. i just read that the sixers' pick this year is owed from when they dumped al horford 4 years ago. triple whoops!
If he does come back and ramps up, it's going to take him awhile. He won't be right until Feb/March, IMO. That's if he doesn't suffer another setback. I'm kind of tired of this...it isn't his fault, but I'm just done with the injuries in general.
Meh..Folks are already out hurt, and missing major time, all over the League this season, including some stars. We are whining about one of our role players? I'll take a healthy Lebron and AD, all day, let's be thankful for that. We'll survive without Vanderbilt and Wood.
Whining? He's been out since February. LOL. I don't under what LBJ and AD have to do with this topic? They both need Vando back healthy and producing right away.
No they don't, Denver neutralized Vanderbilt in the WCF. Golden State did too really. Vanderbilt is not the magic cure, he can't guard Jokic, struggles with Porter Jr and Gordon, and wasn't that effective on Murray. He's useful in spots, and brings hustle and some board work against a lot of teams. Against some teams, including Denver, the impact isn't as impactful though. Not his fault IMO
No, they don't need Jared? They kind of do. They just got waxed by Denver and lost against Orlando (two of the better teams in the league) and we'll see how they move forward against better competition where they miss his defensive presence and rebounding. He's also a big reason that we even got to the WCF with a chance to go to the Finals. However, I do agree in certain matchups because of his non-shooting ability, his impact can be negated. It still doesn't take away that he's the best defender on this team aside from Davis and our best wing that we need during an 82-game season and for certain matchups in the PO's where he can be effective... Mind you, I'd trade him for a minute for a player that could be on the floor and has 2 way ability.
He would definitely help us improve from the 26th best defensive rating. It’s time to trade for some players who can actually create stops.
