i think we mostly agree (not all the way). i'm just saying that batting 1.000 doesn't happen. the gms everyone loves bat pretty close to where we do; they just have a LOT more forgiveness from fans and media. no way we'd put up with okc style rebuilds, imo.

houston's got a good, fun team now, but they had to be terrible to get there, and some of the draft picks they stockpiled on the way down are already out of the league, jhs-style. this stuff just happens.

the huge mistakes were russ and caruso. pretty much everything else is forgivable for me. even the dreaded vet min player options.

I see. So Walker, who's literally out of the league right now and played 17mpg in the deep and competitive Brooklyn Nets last year is better than Prince and Max?
He was also cut instead of Scheierman, Springer and Walsh. C'mon man...

I agree with you on the MLEs partially, not on renewals as Abeer stated. On MLEs he got Green, that was a great move, even more because we were waiting on Kawhi. Prince was NOT a bad signing at the BAE. He's great for 20mpg and we do miss him. We were just unlucky that Ham saw him like a superstar.
And Gabe looked like a good get at the time, he played great in the Finals. For some reason he looked terrible with us. But he has like 16 games for us, I'm still hoping he's better than what he's showing

I'm with Abeer on this one too

learning to manage sounds like advice for Pelinka.....this is the Lakers he should be held to higher standards...as you stated Hou had to suck to get this fun team, the difference they didnt suck with 2 SuperMax star on the team in order to get to where they are today. If you're saying this team needs to suck then why bring bron back and not shop AD at the same time?

Man we tried the rebuild through the draft crap. Tinkerbell is one of the products of that exercise, that's not the Lakers way, we chase stars,we will get more after Lebron and AD leave too.

why? you think replacing him with someone is going to solve the problems...cuz expectations?

yeah, they're a good, fun, play-in team. years of sucking to be basically where we are having won a title and gone to the conference finals in the same span.

lol, they wish they had lebron. they tried really hard to get him and didn't and then instead were terrible for a while to the point where we're clapping for .500.

i didn't say we needed to suck. i said they needed to. more importantly, they were allowed to, by fans and ownership.

our front office believes (rightfully, i think) that if you've got lebron and AD, you should try to compete. and we've been consistently competitive.

i think fans are mostly mad because we've been reluctant to give up all our future picks for marginal roster improvements. i guess i sort of get that, given what i said, but i agree with rob and company that there is a middle ground. add in how badly we got burned on a big swing trade just three years ago, and i get the gun shyness.

keep the powder dry and hope you can buy low on a good player some time between now and february. stay afloat in the standings until then.

if that plan fails again, i'm actually all for blowing it all up. we've kicked the can as far as it can go come february, imo.

My summer targets are pretty much the same for December. I’d like to get Valanciunas and Jerami Grant if possible and not costing us both picks. Those are two guys I can see fitting in nicely. At the cost of maybe Rui, Gabe and Max and Wood and one FR pick I’d like to make it happen. Otherwise Cam Johnson if Portland won’t play ball.

    One stop shop. I'm game.

I think they probably want more, maybe a bundle of 2nd round picks would suffice.

    they can have the maxes.

but yeah, they'll probably want more. i'd be reluctant to do a lot more, though, tbh. if it's seconds like you say, sure. but another first...feels like too much. we'd be left with few options going forward. maybe a protected swap?

FO is bad AND both Bron and AD seem to be ok with competing for the play-in again ..

    :Kaream Surprise:

So Anthony …. considering JJ’s input no doubt on who he didn’t want traded (cough … AR and Knecht) who of our INJURED players and 3rd stringers and DLO with low interest …. and how many picks was he supposed to trade for WHOM? To have gotten your impatient a** off his back?

TRADE THE PICKS. With Knect looking like a ROY/Future star who got to get upgrade Cam/Max/Gabe - get Schroder and DFS, Bruce Brown. Just get legit playoff caliber defensive wing and this team is going to take off

This is not a mark in Bob Todd’s favor, they are winning in spite of his incredible lack of any moves of any kind, and let’s be real, off of a lot of teams we have played missing a LOT of their players. This team needs upgrades, we aren’t beating the good teams of the league with the defense we’re playing, we saw that when Cleveland stomped us and we lost to Detroit. The pressure is now higher on Bob Todd to make some moves to get us to the next level, as with AD, Bron, Reaves, DLo, and now Knecht playing like this there’s no excuse to sit back and say oh well we just aren’t good enough, no moves are going to get us there. No, that’s what he gets paid like 15 mil per year to do, to figure stuff out and make the team better, it’s not aw shucks poor Bob Todd he’s handicapped by the lack of picks and the CBA. Nah, do your effing job, Irwin has been saying that all along, and he hasn’t wavered, said the same thing I just did, now that we have been winning there’s even more pressure on him to stop hiding and hoping nobody sees him behind the plant and make some moves. Irwin’s entire point is that if you have LeBron and AD you go all in to win, rather than sticking in the middle of the pack, and I continue to fail to see how that’s a negative take.

Hopefully by Dec 15 at the latest. I’ll never understand taking a lap or patting ourselves on the back for winning some games in December, this is not what the Lakers are about, it’s just a good start on the way to what we are truly about. I doubt the energy stays the same here if we start dropping games to Denver, Phoenix, OKC, etc, let’s pace ourselves here. We’re lucky as hell to be getting what we are from a rookie, solid minutes from a 3rd string C who hadn't played in like 2 years, but there’s no saying how long that stuff can last.

I like Rui better than Dlo but Dlo makes sense as a bench scorer while with Knecht, Lebron, and Reaves i think i'd rather have Vando and another versatile defender like DFS and Brown to pair with this team. Bruce Brown or DFS to replace Max and Schroeder to replace Gabe and this a title team

You got an MVP candidate check
You got an HOF player still at a high level check
you got an elite 3rd guy who can bring you home games check
you got the young gun Kaly Thompson flame thrower check
you got a scorer/point 6th man in Dlo check

you just needs some defenders out here - not wannabe like Max and Gabe. Get a defensive wing and guard Rob do it.

Yeah you said all the same stuff you been saying and I’ll ask you back the EXACT same question I threw at A. Irwin who unlike you will never see it. I’ve asked it before. Sound of crickets. The odds of what you and we all want to happen are MUCH better starting Dec 15 through the trade deadline.

i don't know who bob todd is, but irwin's schtick sort of never ends. weezy's point is that he's always right about it; i disagree.

whatever, all those teams that hung up the phone when we were shopping the 17 for an upgrade are feeling pretty stupid tonight. more evidence that sometimes your best moves are the ones you don't make.

oh no, i just gave irwin his next piece: "Can you believe that idiot tried to trade the 17th pick that became Knecht?!"

Me neither … thank you. At least he didn’t break out the FO has thrown in the towel, but did come again with Pelinka’s “hiding” (scared to make a move) BS. Exact same stuff as when there were no good moves to get rid of Westbrook first 2/3 of the season. I know … eff those picks. For WHO and who was going out that any team wanted besides AR and now Knecht who you don’t trade … they’re foundation pieces.

he's rightfully scared to make a bad move, and the kind of pressure irwin wants to put on the FO is how you make westbrook moves. i'm glad he's just a podcaster and not actually influential in decision making.

i agree with weezy on the main point that we're not really a powerhouse right now (we're eeking out games against teams that powerhouses steamroll). i just disagree that there have been obvious paths to becoming a powerhouse over the past couple of years.

I’m not going to bother arguing back to these points in any depth because they’re disingenuous. I never said the paths to moves were obvious, I said that’s what Bob Todd makes 15 mil per year to do. I also never said Irwin is always right, that’s just a hilarious claim, I said in this particular case I agree with him, going all in with LeBron and AD now vs not. I’ve always said Irwin can often be over the top and skew negative, but sure let’s throw out silly hyperbole and over the top stuff to make the argument sound silly. Lastly, the “oh we’ll be in better position for moves in December or the deadline” is the Bob Todd special, and then they never come, he’s been selling that line for like 2 years now at least. Oh and Robert Todd Pelinka is Bob Todd, I’m not calling him Rob or Pelinka anymore, he’s a used car salesman or a carny, a phony, Bob Todd suits him better.
