Yeah, I can't dismiss the thought of bringing back guys like Dennis and Lonnie. They have flaws but at least we could get some kind of contributions from them. Talent doesn't mean much if you get tight as soon as you hit the floor. I'm not in a rush to get rid of Max, but would definitely be willing to trade him. Gabe is a complete disappointment and hopefully the last time we get taken by a Miami Heat player.
lol, exactly what i said in the gabe thread the other day. glad the coach recognized it. we got the three point attempts up, too. didn't make them, but he wanted attempts. but we're now getting murdered on the boards nightly and can't defend anyone. like to see reddish keep getting more minutes if he's going to defend, and i know people hate him, but if the message is about details, play gabe more and dlo less.
lots of teams have similar depth to ours, imo. i can only think of a few teams that have 10 good players. boston won a ring with 6 and some dudes who wouldn't crack a rotation anywhere else. iow, everything has to break right for pretty much everyone. that's just how it is. philly is 1-6 after supposedly winning the offseason. things aren't breaking right. one of our stars had a bad game in a close road loss against a good team, the other star missed a road loss against a good team, and we no-showed for a game. nobody knew dlo was going to show up and play the worst basketball of his career. everyone's acting like this isn't surprising. it's f***ing surprising, man. he's posting career lows in every stat imaginable...in a contract year. we weren't built to sustain him being a worse-than-replacement level player. he was playing better last year when ham benched him, tbh. the road trip was particularly bad. last year in detroit, he had 35 and 9 on 13-17 from the floor. i don't know what's happening there, but jj has to figure it out quick.
JJ going to have a heart attack at this rate - hopefully he's taking care of his cardiac risk factors
will be fun to hear what happened between the summer of "dlo and jj are buds" to 8 games in when "jj would like to murder dlo".
The full clip was in the game debrief thread. But here's the zoomed in reaction I hope he's got a good doctor to stay ontop of his heart and blood pressure. Also a good hair stylist cause those grays are going to come in fast and furious.
I guess either he'll inspire DLO to step up or he won't. You can't blame JJ on preparation, so the eyes will fall to DLO for not executing. I'm here for it.
btw, liked his answer--it wasn't a punishment. he wasn't helping us win. we have discussed this, and it's been up and down. it was down, so he went out.
Staggering DLo and Austin away from each other makes sense. That’s one thing Ham was right about last year with his lineup tinkering. I’m not a Cam fan but the guy plays hard and gives us more size and athleticism. This is the right move IMO. The bigger question is if JJ can maximize DLo off the bench.
Ballsy coach: not only the Dlo switch but he basically took a big dump on the FO and the max signing by benching him. I thought the Lakers for once played better then the boxscore showed - Knecht just needs to hit some open shots like wide open shots to get this team cooking
Yeah, really really liked both decisions. He seems to react well to evident things, he doesn't overthink and just adjusts to outcomes. It's the time to do it, with a new coaching staff we are still in preseason and finding the right rotations and lineups that fit JJ's system We have a 6 game stretch now of winnable games, until we meet Denver. We need to win at least 4 of them, but no reason to not win them all. It's time to push, we have our top5 guys healthy
I like what he is doing here. Obviously, he's a bright, young coach who is not afraid to make necessary changes. But we have some obvious problems: the bench is awful. Really bad, sorry to say. DLo makes it better now, obviously, and this role works well for him, but it won't be enough. Jax plays very hard and does what he can, but we still need a big. Starting Cam is a smart move, but not perfect. He works hard, is humble, waits for his opportunity; plays good D and even passes some, but has ZERO offensive game. If he was at least a true 3&D player, we'd have an easier time, but... there will be struggles with this team for sure.
Funny but he actually just said in a presser 2 days ago he actually (loves it … it’s WHY he became a coach …. to deal with these kinds of situations).
So far I'm impressed with JJ's attention to detail and how dedicated he is. I like the staff as well and I think the lack of other coaching minds was a self-inflicted wound for Ham. The roster is still a tough one. We have a lot of one way players. I like a lot of the them individually but it's making for some real problems on the court. I wish we had a healthy Vando again, who makes more sense to me as a starter with our backcourt. If we had Dlo, Reaves, Vando, Lebron and AD starting, that team won 65% of their games together 2 years ago. It would shore up the wing defense with Vando as energizer bunny to balance things out. He could split minutes with Rui coming off the pine as bench scorer. To me that makes more sense than starting Cam and having Dlo off the bench. But then again, we don't have the chance to try it since Vando is STILL out. Both Max Christie and Gabe Vincent should be decent two way players - GV played well in Miami and Max has really shown signs last year of being able to knock down open looks and D up. But neither one of them is showing it AT ALL. It's a shame because they just aren't delivering. I love that we are featuring AD so much and that should continue but if he has to keep playing at this level, 30 points, 10 plus boards and 3 blocks a game just for us to be slightly over .500 that's not a recipe for success. He needs some help. I expect some moves before the deadline. At least I hope we do. Either that or these players on the roster start performing. I don't think it's coaching holding them back.
