Lmao. I still don’t think we make any moves though, and those Hayes & Reddish contracts are killing us right now, probably have to give up 2nd rounders to unload them all because of the player options.

Rob has shown great discipline this off-season in not rushing to make bad deals. This bodes very well for our future as a franchise.

we may be in a great position to make a deadline deal, or find a more reasonable partner that does not require us to give up valuable future assets. Coaching change alone should have us in the hunt for a playoff spot, but the right move could give us HomeCourt advantage for around or so.

i’m all in on not sacrificing our future for the homestretch of LeBron‘s career. Sure, it would be nice to get one more chip, but not at the expense of stripping the franchise of all of its assets.

Totally agree with you, I don't think that this team is one great trade far away from a contender status.

No doubt that the presence of LeBron in the roster oblige you to try to make the team better every single year, but a GM needs to have a long term vision because the Lakers will live also after Lebron's retirement.

Our assets, aren't really all that sought after IMO. I'm sure some teams, would like to poach Reaves at his salary, other than that, I'm not convinced that our future draft picks, should be considered to be worth anymore, than a lot of other team's future picks in the League.

That's not the general consensus around the league nor the logic. Our picks are after the prime of both our stars. That's exactly the point where picks are valuable. Why would they not be valued in your opinion?

For several reasons..I'm assuming that we are talking about picks from 28'30. I'm not sure those picks, are automatically going to be more valued, than some of these other teams, that will also have all their picks doing that time frame.

    https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/future_drafts/team

I don't expect us to fall immediately into the lottery range, just because Lebron retired either. 4 years from now, AD will be 35, that's not ancient, and I fully expect us to have added talent around him by then.

4-5 years out is a crapshoot in the NBA. Injuries could occur and change the landscape entirely true, or some teams that suck now, will still suck then as well.

Deciding to trade them now or later, really depends on the player in question in a trade. I get that Rob should be hyping those picks, like they are gold, I'm not sure, that they will end up being more than mid first rd picks, myself tho.

No, it's 29 and 31. We can't trade the 28 because we traded the 27 already.
Well... that's the art of it, being able to anticipate the future and get the chance of having lottery picks from other teams. If a GM thinks "oh 4 or 5 years is a lot of time, who knows what will happen", than it is a bad GM. Every company has at least 3y and 5y scenarios drawn up and especially in NBA with the cap space and contracts, every single team does it in depth.
No team that trades a 1st round pick expects it to be a lottery pick, so when it happens, it's a big thing.
So if you look at the landscape of the league, it's very likely that teams like Boston, OKC or Spurs won't suck at the end of decade, but teams like us, Milwaukee or Warriors might. But sure it's a prediction, maybe in 5 years the Hornets are back to back Champions, you just don't make decisions counting on that

I have no idea who will or won't suck, at the end of the decade. I do expect my Lakers to be in the mix though.

i actually semi-agree. i don't think he's the superstar that others suggest. i posted sort of tongue-in-cheek. even if he were a genius, he'd be hampered here by jeanie and the rambii, like anyone else.

yeah, i think unprotected picks are worth a lot, especially more than one year out. so many unknown variables. it's how boston built their current team. luck was involved, but there's a reason you don't see fully unprotected picks flying around. a team sees us with aging lebron and, quite frankly, aging AD...they should pounce if we're offering unprotected future picks.

luckily, rob has resisted the urge thus far.

i agree with slick that mid-firsts are a big bag of who cares, though. this is why i'm not mad about jhs not being a star or whatever. those picks are borderline worthless. trade them all if you can get a proven nba rotation player. but you can't allow the possibility of a top-5 pick going out three years from now, under any circumstances.

I'm in the not sucking camp, I'm a homer, you know this already. I reserve the right to gripe and complain, about not being a legit title contender, however that doesn't mean, that I expect us to be garbage either.
